SC beat Gardner-Webb 74-69. Missed a 3 pointer with 2 seconds left that would have tied it.

Gardner-Webb is now 0-5 to start the season, but with games against Furman, North Carolina, Wichita State, and South Carolina they weren't expected to have many winning streaks. Their loss at Western Carolina was the only surprise, and that was one of their four road games so far. They have some potential wins coming up with home games against UT-Martin and Coker. It will be interesting to see what happens against Wofford.

Thanks for that context.

UNCG beat VMI 74-63 today in the first conference game of the season. UNCG lead by 13 at the end of the first half and were consistently ahead by 7-10 points in the second half until VMI made a late run to cut the margin to 1 point several times in the last 3 or 4 minutes. UNCG scored the last 10 points of the game after the 3:24 of the second half.

The Spartans always seem to struggle against VMI more than most of the the top teams in the conference. Don't know why.

SoCon teams won all three games played today. Western Carolina didn't have to make a miracle comeback to beat Stetson on the road by 70-64 but the game was close most of the way. Mason Faulkner, the transfer point guard for WCU, was the star again with 24 points, 6 rebs., 6 assists. He is playing like a SoCon POY candidate.
ETSU was in control of the game most of the way to beat Southern Utah. ETSU never trailed, but couldn't quite pull away after building a first half lead.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
