The SoCon tournament in Asheville is great. Other major city arenas are way too big and would cost too much money. Asheville is a centrally located city with a strong tourism economy and doesn't provide an obtuse home court advantage to any school. I credit Imarino for finding a venue that has proven to work year after year.
On another note about the Well.....
The Well is a superb arena for a community Greenville's size. Anyone trying to say it was out of date when it was built doesn't know what they're talking about. When the Bi-Lo Center was built it was a state of the art arena for something built in the 90's. I challenge anyone to find a similar sized city without a local ACC or SEC university that currently has an arena with jumbotrons, box seats, catering, multiple levels, cushioned seats, and a capacity of 16,000 in the heart of their downtown...... even if it was built after in 1998.
I'll admit the sight lines aren't great for basketball, but they are great for hockey and other concerts. When they built the Well no basketball team wanted to play there and hockey arenas are more compatible with touring shows.
