Guess we see why Chiedo was moved to Bandit. Alex Maier is out for the year with a knee injury from the spring.

Hartwell also lost for the year due to a knee injury last week. Going to be a week to week adjustment there. Babin, Burrell, and Kobuszewski were the main names mentioned.

Stinks to lose Maier but I think we’ll be ok at the bandit spot. Losing Hartwell is tough as I thought he had looked good in the little I had seen this year.

Tough loss at those two spots. I know they both would have played a lot.

I was anticipating going into this year that we may see a committee approach to the SPUR position regardless of the technical starter. This may be one of those Moneyball situations where we try to recreate the position in the aggregate.

I do not get too wrapped up in titles on this. Cally Chizik was a CB for most of his Furman career, only becoming a "SPUR" as a senior, though his roles and responsibilities on defense really didn't change much.

I suspect we may have to see how the DB situation works out first in terms of who may be available to slot into this hybrid role. It could be a rotation of guys.

It's also probably good that Cally Chizik is still on the coaching staff. So that will give an experienced voice in the room in terms of getting guys ready to play that spot.

Agreed on having Chizik on staff. That certainly should help whoever plays there. Achina has played that spot before but with Chiedo moving to Bandit, we can't really afford to lose anymore at ILB probably. We'll see what happens. On the bright side, they will have had multiple weeks to get the guys ready and it's not something that happened on game week.

Not related to this discussion, but I was looking at Burrell's profile and one of his brother's names caught my eye. Could swear I had seen it before. Turns out, he's a guy currently on our recruiting board. Kylan (Aky Moncaries) Darville, a 6'4" 250 lb DE from Houston, TX is AK's brother.
