• How many games do we win - REGULAR SEASON - Honest guess !

Starting with a few assumptions - Furman was the most talented team in the league last season. We lost some of that talent, but so did everyone else.

at Ole Miss - Loss. I am loosely of the opinion that Ole Miss may be the best FBS team Furman has played in years. We have a new defensive backfield, and UM has a lot of talent at QB and WR.

CSU - Win. CSU is typically stingy defensively. They weren't great last season, but played teams tough. Good news for Furman is the Bucs have the Citadel in week 1, so they are not going to be able to load up for Furman.

Stetson - Win. Stetson was a 3-8 Pioneer league team. The beat two NAIA schools and squeaked by PC. Stetson was handled last year by Montana State, which is the only school last season they played that was probably on par with Furman. Furman should win this one by a few scores.

at W&M - Win. A road game against a CAA team, but I just am not that impressed with CAA teams and Furman has handled them pretty well in recent years. By this point, some of our young guys will be veterans.

Samford - Win. Furman has pretty well figured out the Hatch Attack, I think. They lost a lot of their production from last year. In typical Samford fashion, their out of conference schedule early isn't overwhelming, and they may give Florida a scare, but Furman tends to line up well with them.

at the Citadel - Win. Playing in Charleston is always tough. The Citadel plays us tough there. They were 0-11 last season. This one may be a rock fight, but Furman should be the more talented team. Coach Vaughn always has a good game plan for the Bulldogs.

UTC - Loss. Mocs are going to be tough. It's not atypical for us to drop a conference game. This seems to be the most likely one.

WCU - Win. I think the only win WCU has had in Greenville since 1994 was 10 years ago. It may be uncomfortable, and the Cats have a good QB, but that's not atypical for them coming into Greenville. Furman always seems to beat this team at Paladin Stadium.

at VMI - Win. Keydets are always tough in Lexington, but Furman looked clearly the better team last season with Carson Jones at QB. They had a hard time covering Furman's receivers. I'm not sure that's going to be better for them this year.

Wofford - Win. Furman is going to repay the Terriers for last years debacle. Furman big.

at ETSU - Loss. ETSU has a lot of unanswered questions, but we'll know a lot more about them at that point in the season. They have a lot of transfers and a new coach, but Furman should be more talented. Even then, Furman tends to always have a head scratcher game, and I'm fearful that either this one or the Mercer game will be that game.

at Mercer - Win. Similar to ETSU, there's a lot of new to Mercer this season. They lost their most productive players on offense, but return a stout defense. Furman has seemed to figure out Mercer the last two years - good games, but never really seemed like Furman was threatened by them.

So, 9-3. I can see the Paladins losing a game or two along the way against a lesser talented team. It's really hard to win consistently in the Southern Conference - every team sees every team every year.

On a positive note, the two teams that had big coaching changes (Mercer and ETSU) we see later in the year after there's enough film on them and their personnel. Furman also has their arguably most talented opponents at home. Watch out for that Charleston Southern game - they gave us fits down there two years ago.

Jackal. REALLY appreciate the detail. I should go back and pick my 4 losses.

Agee also on the basic theory of reality “most teams lose a game they shouldn’t on paper”. Wofford last year. Etc. KSU a few years back. It’s just hard to win all the winnables when some are 60/40 odds. That oblong ball bounces weird ways at times …

Not sure how many losses other than Ol' Miss and the obligatory loss to Wofford, so I'll be optimistic at 9-2.
PLEASE DONT LOSE TO WOFFORD - given a choice between beating Wofford and making playoffs but no SoCon title... or losing to Wofford and winning a SoCon ring it would be tough (this latter example being last year exactly). Guess I would have to take the latter option (SOCON CHAMPS!!!) but dam please don't lose to Wofford !

Being optimistic 6-7.
That’s one game too many. Regular season only.
6-6?
Lol you said how many games we win, not record. Forgot about 12 games this year so I am going to up my optimism to 7-8 wins or for GF 8-4 or 7-5 leaning toward the latter.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
