GREAT WIN !!!

I didn't see game at all until 2nd Q so feel free to correct or disagree. Would like to hear your opinions !

-------
The good:
1). Did I mention great win- congrats to all our guys

No matter what the rest of the year holds the Seniors can say they beat Wofford their last battle. Congrats in shutting up the ankle biting dogs
2). Option D is definitely our forte'.
- LBs (McKoy and Perryman) ATE UP THE OPTION. Way to go !!!

Want to give a shout to the entire D !!! Everyone basically did Exactly as asked in option D. Way to coach Mr Staggs !

3). Week off helped I am sure. Last year and this year we played great after an off week beating - not coincidentally - an option team last year in Citadel. Last yr we crushd citadel 56-20. Let's say that again. We beat Citadel 56-20. Some coaches do well w off week. Some not. We appear to do v well after bye week. This year our off week led to 34-14 over Wof
4). Thomas Gordon first quarter
5). Passing attack to backs on perimeter
6). Passing to TE
7). Passing to a back - once it was Morehead for first TD and once it was Devin Wynn for about 40+ yards later in game - both who came sneaking out of backfield, both times Wofford number 46 OLB was caught crapping his pants as Morehead and Wynn ran by uncontested
8). Great toughness

Needs work still
1). OL push in middle. Still takes two or three tries to get one yard at C and OG. I was sweating that 4th down late in game. Last year that was Much easier ... Much. A couple times we got 8/9 yds on first down and needed two or three tries to then get that last yard. Cmon. Granted. Wofford is dam good on DL w Miles Brown
2). Injuris. 66 Kroeber OG left game w only a few minutes left. Hope he is ok. 44 perryman had to leave too.
3). Chippy game. No issue there. Good fight in our guys ... but dang w WCU game and this one we have to stop w the stupid personal foul penalties of pushing after whistle and getting caught :D Seriously. It was a retaliation push but still. Wofford guy shoved our guy first. Still They always catch the retaliation. That basically led to a Wofford TD. 14-7. No telling how it could have gone from there .. Could have been a big MO' shift! . And then we had offsetting personal foul penalties later. If we don't give those stupid mental penalties we may be in control of this game much earlier. We just seem w this game and WCU Catamounts to be getting those Mental penalties too much. *Just because we win doesn't mean we should forget the mistakes - they will bite us. Wyche and the other guy were talking on TV about momentum and how big it is - and that was a HUGE HUGE HUGE momentum play where we sh*t the bed with a MENTAL error.

Thoughts from others. Disagree in something. Agree?

Per Twitter (I was about to ask so I’ glad they answered): #4 Wofford is the highest-ranked opponent Furman has defeated since downing #3 Appalachian State in 2011.

If that was the #4 team in the nation then we are the New England Patriots. Hope they fall hard. Sure wish we could get a do-over on that 4th quarter in Johnson City.

This was a satisfying and well deserved win today! We played very well on both sides of the ball, but I was extremely impressed with our offense today. H.R. looks more comfortable & appears to be an accurate passer if he has time. We have GOT to stop making mental errors with personal fouls and getting baited by the opponent. We will likely be in a shoot out next week so we will have to move the sticks and score a lot because Samford will throw it around the yard. Our defensive backs better start hydrating right now... GO FU!

speaking of Sammy and DBs - did Trapp play today?

I was having to watch on TV and saw Lemmons and Anoor and Okeh but didn't catch all of the DBs

I noticed we had Bell on PR duty

I looked and didn't see Trapp.

Also this was the first offensive action for Carson Maples. That dude looks like a tree trunk.

Thanks Jackal !!

That would stink if he is out. He is clearly one of the best physical guys we have - jumped right in and took the starting CB and punt return slot on day one...

anyone know? please PM me and i will keep it private

#6 was at the game but not dressed. Assuming an injury although nothing visible... no limping, casts, boots or any other ortho device.. hopefully short lived.

It helps us that they are number 4 - I for one am glad as I am pro-Furman. Good - Forces the people in the polls to take notice. That's exactly the kind of win we needed. Surely they give us some votes this week. Not the biggest deal I admit but if we could just enter next year like this year (ranked 20-25) it helps. Playoffs are one goal.. but rankings do help.

As we have all learned (Like Woff probably is overrated).. it's much easier to stay in poll than get in the polls. They are slow to drop you out once you have a 'rep'

We burned them several times for big plays with passes to the man we faked a pitch to. Each time the defender took the fake and left a big hole in the defense.

Except for a few big plays we defended them as well as possible. I didn't think we could shut them down so easily. We were able to put them in third and long situations on a regular basis and made the plays on third we weren't making earlier this year.

Beautifully effective game from Roberts.

That personal foul penalty for a tiny push was stupid. A stupid call by the referee and a stupid mistake to take the Wofford bait.

Really, really, really enjoyed the win.

I'll add some random chatter…

The angst over losing Drew Cronic's offensive playcalling… I'll take what I saw today hands down. Last season in the playoff matchup I felt like we tried to run up the middle way too much. Today, we were surgical. HBC mentioned Furman had running backs that could catch the ball… Wynn and Morehead were matchup nightmares for the Terriers, night and day from the last time we played them. Combined the running backs had 6 receptions for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns.

T Gordon played a whale of a game too, no touchdowns but his six receptions were critical. What impressed me the most was the accuracy of Roberts and his ball handling, I thought he made several great fakes with the ball.

One more thought on the offense… Ryan Miller is going to be a player, he has a similar skill set of Schumpert.

Proud of the defense too, McKoy, Perryman, Willis, Washington all had a great game. HBC made the comment at halftime and at the end of the game - he told the players Wofford will continue to block after the whistle and block, push you in the back, and they can't react. Which is hard to not do in the moment.

I saw this in a tweet - until today - no player on the current Wofford roster had lost to Furman.

I think as the OL continues to improve, we will see more up the middle running. Against Wofford, if you try to put the ball between the tackles, you are running straight into the strength of their defense. I think that you will see a flexible arrangement were we can game plan differently depending on the opponent.
