Jace Redshirting

It’s an interesting time of year to do that as he was clearly number 2. Hope we don’t lose him. It reads as if he voluntarily redshirted. IF he leaves - NOT saying that is the case - then we are back to one ankle from a freshman at QB. We are already there now with Jace off the depth chart. If Huff goes down again it’s true freshman again.
Again IF this is the reasoning we just can’t seem to get to where redshirt senior graduates and junior starts next. IF it’s the case I guess Huff would play again next year and then Jones as redshirt sophomore?

I'm trying to think..... Just 4 more games without injury...please, although jones , I guess could play from here on out and not blow his RS ? I'm also guessing Jones development may be the reason for all this.

yes ^^^
You can play in four games and still redshirt.
Carson will be a redshirt freshman next season.
Both JR and CH mentioned that Carson has been getting reps in practice.
I'm assuming since Samford prep week—he's prepping as no 2.

I'm wondering if the coaches were told of this RIGHT before the citadel game? I noticed jace was dressed out for that game. I was a little surprised he didn't start.

We may never know, and that's ok. Jace's decision to redshirt himself is just that, his decision. It appears to be a non issue so far as the team is concerned. An ideal situation would be a game where Carson Jones can get some playing time.

The situation is weird. The article reads like he popped up a day or two before we played a must win conference game with a busted up QB and said he didn’t feel like playing the rest of the way.
So are we dummies for thinking FU has playoff hopes? The team doesn’t seem to be on that page. If you are in contention and you play QB behind a fragile guy, do you walk out on your team before a big game? No. Either you don’t really think we are contending or maybe you do, but you don’t care.
And the coaches seem to be ok with it. That’s the craziest part. If you are playing to win the game(s), how can you be ok with that? How does it make sense to bank another year for a guy to likely play backup 2 years down the road when you need a serviceable backup right now? That’s completely crazy. The future is now!
I wish they’d just say what’s going on because what I’ve read just doesn’t add up.

I'm pretty sure the situation is exactly as the coaches have stated. Jace could see he was right on the line of being able to preserve a year since Huff was QB1 and that made the most sense. The coaches honored that. The coaches have seen what they wanted to out of Jones to know he could let it rip in a game if needed. CCH has also stated many times that Huff hasn't played in a lot of games in his career which also lends to not coming out unless the game is way out of hand or injured. I would bet if Huff had a season ending injury that Jace would re-consider as long as they were still SoCon contenders. As of now, it let's Jones prepare like he's going to play and grow as a result. Let's hope Huff stays healthy, Jones gets some snaps in a few remaining games and still gets to redshirt. I can't think of a better outcome.

See I’m hoping there is more to it. If you are in the hunt for a championship and playoff birth you have your best guys on the field or ready to be on the field in about 2 seconds. There is no pretzel logic you can come up with that justifies this move. If Huff gets knocked out against WCU, we lose. How would that “make the most sense”? Why risk this year worrying about who plays qb a couple of years down the road?

I would think it is crystal clear this is a decision Jace Wilson made in the interest of Jace Wilson and not the team. You can see it however you want, but he’s effectively quit the team this year in the interest of preserving his year of eligibility. I’d find it impossible to believe any head coach would pursue any option other than turning to the next guy in line (Jones) to fill the void and command the practice time previously given to Wilson. Why practice Wilson at all at this point? Decisions have consequences for players and coaches. It’s 2022, and QBs in particular don’t like standing on the sideline. They want to play, and the transfer portal makes decisions like this a lot easier for players to make. No laws are being broken. Wilson is certainly entitled to pursue his own best interests as he sees fit. The head coach equally has a responsibility to look after his entire team’s intetest.

You don't know we would lose nor do I if Huff had gotten knocked out. However, I'm sure the coaches had a game plan if that scenario unfolded. Roberto was not lacking room to run. You are stirring the pot.

it does sound like jace is headed to the portal.before the season the oc was quoted as saying we planned to play two qb's and that has really not been the case.my thought that after the samford game ,he played well enough to earn some additional time, but that did not happen.i'm not of the mind he quit on the team, but more like the team quit on him.
perhaps he will be back.but my guess is that if the starter is back next year, jace will not be.and that we need to thank him for his contribution and wish him well in his future wherever that takes him.

Agree with that. Everyone does in the end have to make the best decision for yourself.

I think you might be right.
Jace worked hard in the off-season and appeared to be one of the most improved players on the team. I'm sure he expected to be the starter this year and lost out to a transfer. When Huff went down at CSU, Jace led the team to victory and played much better than Tyler did before leaving the game. Jace also had a good game vs. Samford - not his fault we lost.
Most likely Jace expected to start the Citadel game in place of a still-recovering TH. When the coaches went in another direction, Jace got pissed and made his decision. Conjecture on my part, but it makes sense.
I hope Jace stays at Furman. If not, I wish him well.
