Like or hate a team we need wins for conference now:
August, Thursday - Mercer - what a nice performance. Nice -whooped Morehead State.
Furman - killed NGU.. keep it up guys !! impressed. It's D2 but the throws look reall nice !! Heck, its all nice. WOW
Samford - BIG WIN for SoCon !! Beat #8 Kennessaw State ... Great stuff for SoCon
Citadel- the kids from the 'Creek (Campbell) whooped Citadel.. Bad look for conference. Thanks Citadel.. Well, if one team had to stink it up I guess this is the one I would pick.
VMI - v Wake not much to take away. Do your best n get a check
ETSU - whoopin Mars Hill as they should. Fine

It's in Furman's best interest for every team to be highly ranked (or respected) before we defeat them. Let ETSU be top-10 when we roll them in Johnson City, and let Samford continue their hot streak and give us another top-25 win in PS in a month. But I'm fine with Wofford and Citadel remaining a dumpster fire.

Samford's win also helps out down the road. KSU is frequently a school that steals a bid in the FCS post season given their usually weak schedule and Big South dominance. It'll be a little tougher in the new ASUN conference, likely, but it's nice for a SoCon school to go ahead and put a loss on them early.

Speaking of ASUN, I haven't paid much attention.
Jacksonville State is ineligible for the post season this year as they are transitioning for FBS. Their head coach is now Rich Rodriguez.

While that's a good win for Samford, the Bulldogs under Chris Hatcher have also been masters of winning games they should lose, losing games they should win, and ending up .500.

Doubt very seriously if Sammy jumps into the top 25 after one game. Remember how hard it is to to get into the top 25 and how hard it is to fall out.

FUBeAR has reasoned out a completely logical alternate plan…
* AGS, STATS, and Coaches Polls had KSU ranked tightly (6-8 range) around an average ranking of #7. No way could all 3 of those esteemed groups be collectively wrong.
* And, Samford was projected by the SoCon Coaches & Media to finish 6th or 7th in the SoCon. 2 more esteemed groups that couldn’t be wrong.
* So, there are only 6 slots available ahead of KSU @ #7….but they lost, so we’ll bump them down to #8 and call it 7 slots available.
* Clearly, Samford belongs in 1 of those 7 slots…and we, of course need to bring the 5 SoCon Teams judged better than Samford - Chatt, ETSU, Mercer, Furman, and Western Carolina - along. So, FUBeAR suggests…
1 - NDSU
2t - Furman
2t - Mercer
4 - Samford
5 - ETSU
6 - Chatt
7 - WCU
8 - Kennesaw
Makes perfect sense. Anything else is illogical!

Compare our performance vs D-II competition vs that of ETSU:
FURMAN ETSU
Points 52 / 44
Passing Yds 266 / 197
Rushing Yds 323 / 107
Total Offense 589 / 304
Yds per Rush 6.8 / 3.0
3rd/4th Down 8-13 , 0-0 / 4-13, 0-1
Turnovers 0 / 2
Time of Pos. 36.06 31.02
The Bucs seemed to have struggled running the ball and converting 3rd downs. Even the announcers mentioned that it was unusual to score 44 points on that little actual offense. Their defense is obviously stout, but the loss of Quay Holmes is really showing. I'd wager they'll roll El Cid next weekend in Chucktown (and hopefully stay highly ranked) but I have no doubt we can get the W in Johnson City if we continue to execute in all areas.

This explains it:
They had scoring “drives” of 2, 21, 29 and 5 yds plus a pick 6. 31 points on 57 yds of offense.

The major concern for ETSU - they gave up four sacks against Mars Hill.

WCU looks to have a good qb and passing game after one quarter at CSU. They can't seem to run though. Their D looks a little better although CSU burned them for a long one. Don't know how good CSU is. 17-7 WCU at quarter.

Same ole’ WCU. Good on offense not so much on D. 600 yds of offense and gave up 500. Put it away with a late TD abd won 52-38.

UTC killing the little dogs as expected 24-0 late second quarter. Auburn no problem with Mercer so far. 14-0 first qtr.
