Either invest big in football or don't invest anything (SoCon stinks)

Football in the SoCon has gotten so bad, officiating is bush league at best, its just such a boring thing to watch
Small crowds
Probably high school level refs, and zero replay ability it seems most times
Really really bad football, zero good wins out of the league
Its time for Furman to either invest big in football and move up to FBS with our former peers of ASU and GSU ect. ect.
Or just drop the dang thing or move to non-scholarship, because this socon stuff is a joke

Embarrassing. CCH must be in over his head.
I predict a 4-7 season this year.
Western wins the battle for 5th place in a weak Southern Conference.
2021 (spring and fall) has been bad for FURMAN football but honesty I think the proof was in the pudding when Wofford beat us 24-7 in November 2019 and then Austin Peay beat us 42-6 in November 2019. That shows how we compare to good (not the best) FCS teams. We are a shell of the program we once were.
We have zero percent chance of competing with FBS so I disagree with the post above. The question is can we compete at the FCS level. I would think we could but if we don’t improve soon I can see us dropping football in 10 years. If for no other reason than no fans coming.
Better have more inflatables and food trucks and beer in the future to keep folks coming to these entertainment venues because the play on the field will not get it done.

You can say that again!
I just cannot believe we just blew an 11 point 4th quarter lead to Western. Considering all our losses in the spring and fall of 2021 it is hard to believe us sinking much lower. At this point I have no confidence that CCH knows how to right the ship.

The majority on UFFP are against Pioneer Football League and are against dropping football. Mediocre it will be.

Officiating at the SoCon level is a crap shoot. A lot of good ole boy buddies in the system. College is easy compared to High School . Most high school is officiated with 5 officials. College has 7. Too many times officials "watch the game" instead of doing their job. Then they have this WTF just happened? I better throw a flag moment. It is also an ego issue with a good many officials. They dont have the ability to admit they are wrong.

We need to do all we can to encourage ETSU and UTC to move up to FBS. Then we need to bring in Tusculum and Catawba to replace them. That should at least bump us up to 2nd or 3rd for a few years until those two pass us by. Then when they move up we’ll get Anderson and Erskine.
Or we could just do obvious stuff to get better.

Pioneer Football = mediocrity at a lower level.
But less investment required?

Sell White Oaks would deliver plenty of money for athletics.Furman Presidents (especially this one) can afford their own houses.

Doubt that’s how it works.

SD thinks the issue is that no matter how mediocre the program is it is still he biggest money maker
There is no reason Dins could not beat CIT, VMI, Wof, WCU, Mer and Sam on a frequent basis. Worst case year should be 7-4

Not so sure about biggest money maker. I suspect basketball may actually make a profit. Football probably loses a million or so. Not saying it matters. We can afford losing money on football better than anybody else in the conference.
But we won’t ever drop down because we would sacrifice the tradition and prestige of playing storied programs like ETSU and UTC.
