Didn’t take long, already 2 FCS wins. Not biggies but they count:
UC Davis 19 Tulsa 17
E. Washington 35 UNLV 33 2 OT’s

Another FBS scalp tonight:
SD State 42 Colorado St, 23
That’s 3 before the first big Saturday.

Big 12 Kansas trailed South Dakota until 70 seconds left in game.
Rock Chalk Jayhawk.
South Dakota has an FBS game every year (except 2020 - when they played conference games only, due to Covid, went 1-3 and then remainder of schedule got cancelled after 3/20/21).
Their last win against FBS was 2017.
In 2019 they played OU.
The next 4 years (2022, 2023, 2025, 2026) they have games contracted with Missouri, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Iowa State.

I know some of the Samford natives are getting on the fence with Hatcher, but if their backup goes on to make a deep playoff run while the Hatch Attack runs out one of its patented .500 seasons, I imagine the seat will get really hot.

I predict we will see more FCS victories over FBS teams than usual this year: the extra Covid year reduces the relative scholarship limit difference between the two subdivisions. Every team has 20-30 more available players than usual right now. 65 vs. 85 is a tougher lift than 90 vs. 110.

That's a good point. Had not thought about that.

Montana defeats (formerly) #20 Washington 13-7. ETSU leading Vandy 20-3 with 5 minutes to play. The gap between the two subdivisions is definitely smaller this year than usual.

I count 7 wins including a top 20 and the great SEC.
On top of these there were several close games including N. Iowa losing to #7 Iowa St. by 6.

Montana St. came within 47 seconds of topping Wyoming.

I definitely buy the increased scholarship argument. A lot of these FCS/FBS matchups are won and lost in the 4th quarter, and it could be that the FCS teams have just enough more firepower to hang around late with more players on the roster.
That, too, and the gap between the upper echelon of college football and the rest of the FBS grows larger every year. P5 schools aren't all made alike.

Only 2 scalps today and 5 or 6 near misses. Duquesne beat Ohio, prolly their first ever fbs win and Jacksonville St. beat Florida State on the last play of the game on a 59 yd TD pass. FSU coach should be fired, or at least the defensive coordinator.

Sort of going on a limb here, but from what I've seen to this point, the ACC is terrible. Makes me think we might have a shot at State next weekend.
