With a few exceptions we have average SoCon talent and below average coaching. We are not close to a top 25 team. Lucky we play in a bad league. I realy expected more in CCH 4th year. Very disappointing. We need to be thankful we are not in the playoffs so we won’t get embarrassed again. I see no reason to be optimistic about the fall.

You are absolutely wrong about the level of talent... what is missing is a coherent offensive scheme.

Agree, but if we have that much talent why could we not be competitive against a team that really didn’t even want to be playing. Dan said their radio guy said they were going to start playing a bunch of backups after this game. If we have great talent why did we rush 34 times for 49 yards, regardless of play calling nor give up 400 yds to a team without a decent QB.

Our coaching staff decided that our current QB was much better suited to run this O. So we had a 6-4 athletic kid with a cannon of an arm decide to walk because we were just too wed to this incoherent O.No amount of talent is gong to overcome our current approach.

seems like they are back to the sorrells days.. a play book with 6 plays in it.
seems like last year they offense was hard to plan agaisnt. It was a multiple offense. Even used the option a lot
This year with a ton of weapons seems to be very conservative

I agree that losing Grainger was huge. He was very athletic, and had a good arm. Regardless of whether he was the 1st or 2nd string, we needed him .

I do think we have talent. Blackshear. Kearse. Hope. Coleman. Wynn. Harris etc. At least 7 or 8 all conference level guys. Which leaves one - if you are reasonable - take: We aren’t able to use that talent. Our D did “pretty well” though honestly we were lucky they couldn’t hit passes a good QB woulda made us pay for. They easily coulda had 14 points more. EASY.
THat said D is not the overall issue. Yeah we need to work on XP and FGs but it’s the overall offensive set up that isn’t working. not just today but w perspective our OL is underperforming. I wondered after VMI. I worried after Samford. Now I know. Where have the running holes gone that beat VMI by Forty (Last year!)? Or Samford by 30 (Last year!)? Does no one respect out passing game at all?
CH said he loved our Rbs. Well then you know it’s OL etc when we look like this
Look Chatt beat the crap outta Woff so I get it. They are undefeated. But a league where VMI is .500 or better should be ours for the taking. Hope it is soon. Let’s get some reps and please beat Citadel and Woff !
A worry of mine is our OL is losing something like 3 strong players - Harris and Neely and Kroeber maybe? Where does that put us next year?
I will say NEVER try too much transitive esp on road games. w Chatt barely beating citadel who lost to WCU you have to realize both were on road - Chatts win and Citadel loss. Any road win is pretty good. Some people thought if Chatt only edged Citadel they weren’t that good. Looked good to me - overcame a slew of mistakes and still beat us up and down the field. Man. And that without Ford at RB. Wow
PLEASE beat Woff and Cit

Of course we will never know and I guess its none of our business but if this staff really thought that Sisson was the best choice that does not say much for the staff. I am hoping there was something else that made Grainger leave.

Regardless of being able to name the cause of our problem, we certainly have a problem. I too think the Southern Conference is probably the weakest it has ever been as I don’t think UTC or VMI are that good.
We were exposed in a big way against Austin Peay and 16 months later we appear to be a worse football team.
I do not remember a season over the last whatever number of years where there was such a gap between what I expected and what we got. I would think ultimately it goes back to the head coach but missing a few key players in key positions seems to be a factor also. Regardless, I have no reason to be optimistic about Furman football in the fall.

I’m starting to think we should just become an option team. You don’t need great talent for that. If we aren’t going to recruit arm talent or dominant linemen, then it seems like the way to go. I’ve tried to defend the poor OL, but they are pretty bad. I don’t get why CH can’t produce a decent OL. But if he can’t, we need a gimmick.

How many times do we line up with no wideouts? Everyone can stack the box, they know we can’t throw. We have some serviceable receivers but we have no receivers that scare you. Still waiting for Bell to emerge to replace Gordon like so many said. Think he still has only 7-8 career catches.

Our last 2 basketball and 2 football losses have been by a combined 5 points to mediocre competition.

Not sure what to say to folks that think UTC isn't good.

UTC has athleticism with lots of transfers. I think some of the good Furman teams of the past would DESTROY the current UTC team. There may be parity in the conference this year but I think it is bad parity meaning the level of play is down.
