Of course I don’t know why the decision was made or who made the decision(have an idea) to not play any games this fall. National TV was a possibility that would generate revenue and there are plenty of money games out there to be had. There is now only one game scheduled on Aug. 29th when at one time there were a dozen. Guess who will be on ESPN national TV? Austin Peay and Central Arkansas @7pm prime time which will be watched by millions and bring great notoriety to those 2 schools. It could have been Furman. VMI cancelled their nationally televised game with Virginia on Friday night, Furman could have been a replacement. Don’t understand VMI’s decision, I guess they don’t need the money like Furman does. Furman could have replaced Sammy at FSU. Maybe even Citadel at Clempson. I could go on and on, it’s just there were just so many great opportunities(still are) for 2-3 games. Currently there are 3 SoCon teams playing fall ball and FU ain’t one of them. Just think FU missed a golden opportunity for notoriety and a great payday.

Read GWTW for the first time this summer, Figured I better before it’s banned. A major theme running through it is that disasters bring about opportunity. But you have to hustle, and you can’t worry about what people might say. While the majority of Southerners did the honorable thing, clinging to the past and wearing rags proudly, Scarlet and Rhett worked with carpetbaggers, rebuilt Atlanta and got rich. But it made them outcasts.

FU says they had the protocols working. The opportunities were there to make it a very memorable and lucrative year. I’ll bet the coach and AD were up for the hustle part. But the school didn’t want to become a scallawag opportunist working with the “selfish, childish” ACC et al to put “the almighty dollar over player safety”. Unlike Scarlett they care what Dr. Meade and India Wilkes might say. So we’ll join the others by surrendering and talking about the lost cause of 2020 sports.

Justin Fields just started a petition to let players, teams decide for themselves whether they want to play. Already has 15,000 signatures. There used to be a country that allowed freedom but that country seems to have been overtaken.

Update as of 12:30 pm it has 30k signatures. People are fed up!

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
