This has to do w Furman football because it was in a thread yesterday about UTC and I slept on it (something I should do more often ! )...
Someone posted a player of ours yesterday had a soul-CRUSHING day yesterday. (no one commented on this extreme hyperbole surprisingly). This may seem a little odd but it is because I don't now have the post to quote. Sorry about that part.. out of my control. It was here yesterday but the thread (probably rightfully so ) is now gone...
We need perspective. Getting benched or playing a different position in what is, in the end, a GAME is HARDLY near "soul-crushing". PLEASE. Here is soul-crushing: I found out two relatives of mine had cancer in same year. Honestly, that may not even qualify as soul-crushing. My friend had two of their 5 children die. THAT IS SOUL CRUSHING. Football is a GAME people. I wish that thread were still around as I slept on it and wanted to quote that post.
You compare what the issues I posted about (we have all had them in real life) to getting a full D1 free ride to play for a great school like a Furman and free 200K education and then call it "Soul Crushing" just because you are on the sideline some? Those items I spoke of both happened. One (friend 2 children passing away prior to age 22 ) happened recently.
Lets keep perspective - nothing at Furman UTC was 'soul-crushing'. we are so LUCKY to live in a world that we have time for what is a game.
