this is something we do on AGS board and now that is October would like to hear from the educated crowd here - part of my reason is I fee we CAN win this week but if Sam wins they will have beaten most of the top competition. How ironic would it be if they won the SoCon (please NOOOOOO) in the year after Hodges and Gooden...

top 3 - Furman Samford Citadel
next 3 - Wofford ETSU Chatt
bot 3 - VMI Mercer Western

few notes on my why by group-
Furman, ran Mercer out of the building, had enough to beat ETSU, top 3 but would need to beat Sam or Cit to be top 1
Samford, heck they beat Woff and Citadel, nuf' said
Citadel, may fall to middle soon if they don't win one or two - a lot of close losses but ceiling is there as they beat GT and Rainey has been hurt

ETSU - best D in conference (DL adn DB) but almost no O
Chatt - not sure here
Woff - as they return to more run plays, though not option they keep improving - find out more vs ETSU

Western - like VMI, can score w Tyrie back but can't stop anyone
VMI - can score but can't stop anyone - Udinski apparently can throw a nice bal
Mercer - just fallin'

anything? do those tiers of 3 teams each look about right to you all?

I’m afraid the SoCon is so weak, that no one cares about ranking the teams. It’s Furman, then the rest battling for last place.

Not sure I agree with this. I will until after tomorrow, then we will see.

I think it's at least close and worth debate on that side of ball. I think the ETSU DL and DBs are probably better with us having great LBs.

Watched (tortured myself) VMI/bellhops while listening to Paladins. Both are bad. And slow. Though VMI did beat ETSU.

Gardner Webb loves to beat the SoCon. They will be primed for our Bball trip up there.

also quick addition - Chatt (2-0) and WOff (2-1) have yet to play each other. So that really helps as someone takes a loss. We need to take care of our own business but it's still a good thing.

Outside of that comment I basically agree w your rankings. Wachenheim at VMI the CoY so far.

yeah, I think I have decided it isn't that good with enough data now - I was wrong. Sam Gave up gobs of yards to us though we have a great run O... so I look at other games. As you say they held Woff to 14 so that's great. But gave up a ton to YSU who is good I admit. Gave up 59 points to Tennessee Tech? man.. Now we are learning Citadel ain't that good and Cit scored 38 in regulation on Samford (granted, 2 turnovers. I feel pretty confidnt in saying that Sam D is BAD. That doesn't take away from Furman but FUBeAR was saying same thing in convincing me we would win on AGS - they give up 40 points a game to the likes of Citadel and TTU ?

I dont know why people are ridiculing Samford for giving up points to Tennessee Tech. They may have been horrible last year but they are playing solid football this season and until yesterdays OT loss t oa good SEMO team, they had only one loss- to an FBS.

I watched some of that Tenn Tech - SEMO game . . . I did not see a Tenn Tech offense that should put up 671 yards in a game. Samford without a doubt has one of the worst defenses in FCS, particularly among scholarship teams.

Sammy certainly has issues on defense but I don't know about being the worst in FCS. They did hold WC to 14 points and 283 yards. Alabama A&M is averaging 37 points a game and has scored 30+ every game except Sammy who held them to 21.
