A new football season is upon us and it's time to weigh in on how we think our Paladins will perform this year.

My best guess is: 8-4

gofurman beat me to the punch with this same forecast in another thread, but I arrived at the same conclusion before reading his post.

I must say this is my gut feeling and is not the results of doping out the schedule game - by - game. If I did it that way I would probably come up with more favorable numbers for Furman, but over the years I have come to the conclusion that my intestinal instincts are usually closer to the truth than my intellect.

We will have a good team this year - likely a playoff-caliber outfit - but things can and will go wrong. I am making allowances for screw-ups by new QBs, a new DC, and others. Plus we can't ignore injuries & Murphy's Law.

8-4 is my call and I'm sticking to it. What do the rest of you have to say on the subject?

11-1, loss at VPI.

9-3. Losses to VT, one road SoCon game and then either Georgia State or a home SoCon game. First round home win, second road road win, loss in quarterfinals (hopefully not at NDSU).

Was thinking 8-4 being cautiously optimistic, but I like fufanatic's thoughts on 9-3. All I know is there is very little room between 9-3 and 6-5 with our schedule. Beware Mercer and Chatty.

Agree, the differnce in 9-3 and 6-5 is very thin. very! Say we lose to VTech - expected.

Mercer, AT Samford, AT Chatt, AT Wofford, AT Georgia State not counting ETSU and Citadel who are tough teams this year... - I HATE that Mercer is so early.. basically our first 'real' game. I wish we had just about anyone before them. That's always a scary game and BL can coach a team with a good QB. And Riddle is scary good. So lose to VTech.. that's one loss. take 50/50 on the others and you get 3 or 4 losses total.

I'll say 8-4. I really wish we had Mercer later. I would be happy w 8-4 .. then return the entire OL (except Godwin) and have almost whole offense back plus McKoy and Hope and all QBs w more experience in 2020!

I do fear that 1-3 is possible early. Beat CSU, loss to VTech - Georgia State is probably a 7/10 point favorite on us and then we have Mercer. I would be happy w 2-2 after four games. I think we are looking good after those 4 games looking at schedule.

I think 8-4 gets us in assuming losses are to two FBS teams and a pair of quality FCS foes, especially if those are on the road. Losing to Point, VMI, CSU, etc. would be the kiss of death though.

Also SoCon auto bid, first round bye, and 12-2 getting ready for a semi final game at home.
