Haven’t run the numbers, but, eyeballing, it seems FU is bigger than GaSt. Doubtful they have much, if any more, team speed. Better players? Probably not; not really.

So...comes down to execution & Coaching...

The cumulative score of all 11 games is 72-485.
All the games have been with Georgia Tech.
(Furman has played at Oglethorpe 5 times, but Oglethorpe is in Brookhaven, and it is assumed all 5 of those games were on the Oglethorpe campus.)

Furman's SECOND best outcome when playing those 11 games in Atlanta was a 17-17 tie in 1986, 33 years ago. FURMAN'S BEST OUTCOME WHEN PLAYING THOSE 11 GAMES IN ATLANTA WAS A 17-14 WIN IN 1983, 36 YEARS AGO.
The 2 most recent games, 1993 and 1995 were not close, but at least we scored, 3-37 and 7-51.
We were shut out the first 5 times we played in Atlanta: 0-17, 0-25, 0-118, 0-74, and 0-69. Thank goodness Furman did not choose to discontinue football after any of those scores.
The next game, 1946 WAS 7-41.

Atlanta is apparently the largest city in which Furman has ever played a football game. (There have been 5 games in Washington, DC, 1 game in Orlando, and 3 games in Miami; but I am guessing that Atlanta has been larger than each of those 3 in the years each of the games were played.)

This will be our first opportunity to play football against Georgia State University.

This is not correct. Furman beat Tech in 1983. In 1986 they missed a field goal to win at the end. The game we lost by two, we should have definitely won.....many shady calls....guess what all losers say, but seriously in this case....

Can't imagine they'd be intimated by Atlanta since half our team s from there and it's a much better atmosphere to get pumped up

you HAVE to note that 1991 was playing the defending FBS national champions !!!@@ and we lost by 2 - that's astounding really. though I don't think the 91 GT team turned out that good but still .. would any FCS challenge Clemson this year? riight

Most of their fans seem pretty knowledgeable, and respect us enough to be worried about this game. But they also think we’re an option team. A few years ago this was an easy FBS win. Now they’ve put together a pretty decent coaching staff, and this should be a good one. I think we got it.
