Long way to go, but potentially hosting Wofford and then going to NDSU would be just about worst case scenario for me personally. Best case (unless we move up higher than I think we will) would be first round bye, host game, go to Kennesaw, go to anyone that’s not NDSU (or get lucky and host semis), play someone other than NDSU in Frisco.
Long way to go and some tough games for teams predicted to be seeded ahead of FU. Weber St still has to play Montana and Sac St. Montana still has to play Weber, Sac St., E Washington, and Montana St. SDSU still has to play NDSU and UNI.

I don’t think SDSU drops much unless they loss two. FU should pass Weber if they lose one. Montana has a brutal schedule ahead. If they manage to win out they are the #3 seed.

Regardless, if FU takes care of business and any losses come to those teams above this playoff picture gets much friendlier to FU (ie no early travel to the Dakotas).

Only other SoCon schools getting votes is Wofford and...wait for it...VMI! They are 3-1 in #SoCon. Last time they won 3 conference games was 2002; last time won 4 conf games was 1979. The last time they won at least 4 games overall was 2008 under #SparkyWoods.

Don’t believe with the new 24 team playoff format that Furman has been a seeded team.

I would think that the “you don’t play a conference opponent in the first round” would not apply if you get a bye because that would be the second round.

In 2017 we beat Elon in the first round and then lost to Wofford in the 2nd round (they had a first round bye) so I think that would answer my question.

I would hope bye, home game, and the opposite side of the bracket from NDSU. I think James Madison and anyone other than NDSU there would be beatable.

Delaware 3-3 just lost 42-7 to unranked Elon and still in top 25. Towson 3-3 and just lost 38-21 to unranked Albany and still #18. Just goes to show you how hard it is to drop out of the top 25. Anyone believe Austin Peay is a top 20 team? Remember they lost to ETSU and barely beat Mercer. Are they better than Woffy? NO!

I expect FU to win out and, with an expected loss by SDakSt to the bizuns and some combinations of losses by at least 3 of these 5 Teams, ...

* Weber (Massey projects they lose 3),
* Montana (Massey avg % chance they win all 6 remaining is 74%, not great - 3 on the road, including @ MTSt),
* Villanova (also 74% per Massey with @ UNH, Stony Brook, and their usual loss to UD possible),
* JMU (Massey sez 90%, but UNH & Towson are capable of knocking them off), and
* KSU (Massey sez 96%, but UNA, Monmouth, & @ Campbell could all doom the li’lhooters)...

...to be a Top 4 seed, ensuring a 1st round bye, a 2nd round home game, and a 3rd round home game after that 2nd round win.

This is what we need to be talking about...

FU gunning for undefeated SoCon mark, would be the first time we go undefeated in the SoCon since we went 7-0 in the league in 1989 (30 years ago)

Wow. Going undefeated then was quite an accomplishment. It should be much easier now, with the weak teams in the SoCon.

APSU is better than Wofford
I'll take your word for it but:
ETSU 20 APSU 14
WC 35 ETSU 17(wasn't that close)
Maybe you're basing that on APSU's big win over Clark 24-16., LOL.

Nope - taking the unusual tact of watching both Teams play football in multiple games, having some knowledge of & experience in the game, and basing it upon that. LOL

...and you must not have watched the Woff @ ETSU game. ETSU cut the lead 2x in the 2nd half - got it down to 11, stopped Woff & had the ball on Woff’s side of the field with a chance to make it a FG difference game, but stalled (because they refuse to not try to pass the ball) and punted the ball back to Woff...who let the air out of it as they & their O can do with a gut-wrenching (15 plays (14 runs), 92 yards, 7:47) drive to score a TD for the final wider-than-it-was margin.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
