I think you can look at it a number of different ways.

Right now, I think you can already pencil in the starting lineup with McKoy at WLB, Willis at SPUR, Hope at BAN, and Perryman at MLB. I would see no issue with that.

Of that group, though, I can get a picture of the coaching staff moving Perryman back to OLB. The ILB positions should have more depth this year than we've seen in a long time, with Voyles, Owen, and Gilby. Unlike most positions on defense, the ILBs rarely substitute, so you do not need a massive rotation there.

There is part of me that wonders whether Furman will use Adrian Hope as a "three down" linebacker or continue to deploy him strategically in passing situations. Put another way, is he more valuable to Furman playing most of the game as a starter, or is he more valuable coming in situations where he can do the most damage?

I agree that you may see Furman move Porter around some. Porter backed up Willis in 2018, but the coaching staff also clearly likes Dae'one Wilkins, who saw playing time as a freshman at SPUR.

Long story short, I think we have depth at linebacker we haven't seen in a while. The concern in this class, I think, is to add depth for the future. This staff likes to redshirt guys in the front seven, so I do not believe anyone will necessarily need to make an impact in 2019.

In a move that was somewhat unsurprising, LB Josh Slay decommits from FU (per his Twitter feed)....
Really curious to see where he goes. I hope it's for a bigger opportunity than UMass ... independent football at a bad program a billion miles away from home. Doesn't sound super exciting.

Coach Bratton tweets that we got a commit from a “baller from Texas” and can’t imagine it being anyone other than Prosper HS RB Wayne Anderson, Jr.

If so I’m thrilled. Excelled at the highest level of the best football in America, 6A Texas HS football.

Fast, shifty and explosive and can catch.

Where did the Texas RB have offers from?
FYI… it's pretty easy to find out… go to players twitter page, scan their stream or look at their photos and collect all the posted offers.

Wayne Anderson, Jr is a 247 2 star listed offers:
Army, Air Force, Furman, Lafayette, Georgetown, Incarnate Word, The Citadel, VMI, Angelo St, Arkansas Tech, East Central U, Harding U, Oklahoma Baptist U

Not a commentary on Mr. Anderson, but FUBeAR is throwing a flag on calling TX HS Football “the best football in America.” 10-15 years ago, maybe, but now that just about every HS in TX plays 5-wide spread on O, their HS Football is a shell of it former self. Best 7-on-7 in America, maybe. Best State to find a spread QB, maybe. In the FUBeAR Index, GA has the best HS Football (of course). Florida is probably next on the list, but there are a lot of bad HS Teams (with good, FAST Players) down there. Per capita, I believe Louisiana has the most D1 recruits, so the Pelican State is near the top as well. THEN, we can start thinking about TX, CA, and OH.

Louisiana per capita having the most D1 recruits - where do you get that info, and what are some relative rankings on that in regard to other states?

Anderson looks like he fits right in with Wynn and Watkins. Furman is building some really impressive depth in the backfield.

Been a little change since the last time I looked at the data...

LA is #3...TX now not even in Top 10; looks like barely in Top 25...& FUBeAR’s call on GA/FL as the top 2 with LA in 3rd appears to be on the money.

Per his tweet Dan Dodd has committed.
Have it from good authority that despite only having one D1 offer, Mr Dodd was at or near the top of CCH list of OL prospects.

Here is an article putting all of that in context: https://www.sbnation.com/college-footba ... e-ncaa-map

I don't have the link available, but there was a similar story a couple of years ago which ranked the states by ratio of NFL players to state population. Louisiana was #1 and South Carolina was #2. The same general pattern was present. The southeastern states up at the top and California and Texas lower than expected.

One factor that influences lists of players recruited by colleges is that some states have many more colleges playing FCS and FBS level football than others. In general, states west of the Mississippi have fewer D1 schools. The state of Minnesota, for example, has only one school in D1 - the Univ. of Minnesota. North and South Carolina have dozens.

Roster updates:

Dillon Vann back to Bandit (called that as a possibility)
Jumper to C
Deon Sanders does not appear on the roster
The backup NG (whose name I now forget) no longer on the roster
Porter moved to Bandit (I think that is a change from Spur)
Ben Page, who was a DE, is listed as TE
Cam Burnette off the roster

So, a few unexpected departures perhaps.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
