Blackshear and Morris—as good as Blackshear is, you don't lose much at all with Morris in the game.
Blackshear left the game Saturday night. Is he OK?

Love seeing the tipped passes. Drives me nuts that more defensive linemen and linebackers don't get their hands up.

These Blue Collar games pay many dividends to a team. I like this crowd and our Tough QB. We have a lot of good things going on and will only get better. FU!

You can also see a bit why we struggled to run inside.

I realize ETSU probably assumed Furman was running the ball here, but watch the inside linebackers attack the line right off the snap. They were doing that all night, which explains a bit why we struggled moving the ball against a clogged box, but also why we had success running Huff around the edge and throwing slants off play action.

Buc-
Did ETSU lose a bunch of O-Linemen from last year? I mean, we hired the O-line coach away from you based on their great play last year and he's got our OL playing great... but your guys are still there and remember what he taught them the last 2-3 years, right?

ETSU lost a very good offensive linemen to the transfer portal, Tre'Mond Shorts. The offensive line coach is Dru Duke, who coached Furman OL the past few years. They also have Tavon Matthews, an All American and first team All SoCon player, on the offensive line. They have some talented players.

I think Saturday had a lot more to do with the depth and quality of Furman's defensive front.
Yes Shorts is starting for LSU this year. Offensively lost tight end Nate Adkins to South Carolina where his dad coaches. Adkins had an offer from Alabama but elected to transfer to SC because of his dad. The portal is going to kill FCS

Well, let's be fair. Mentioning OL and TE was this not mentioned by Jackal or FUBeAR?? . Seriously - ETSU had a bonafide superstar!! (and I mean that sincerely)...

"South Carolina has dipped back into the transfer portal to add another tight end, as former East Tennessee State standout Nate Adkins announced Tuesday that he will play his final season for the Gamecocks.
Adkins, a two-time All-Southern Conference selection at ETSU, received interest from multiple SEC schools, including Alabama and LSU. He joins his father, Greg Adkins, who's entering his second season as South Carolina's offensive line coach.

The Gamecocks have hit the transfer portal hard this offseason, and the addition of Adkins makes them especially deep at the tight end/H-back positions. Adkins, who is 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, is a bruising blocker but also had 73 catches for 749 yards and four touchdowns during his career at ETSU. During the FCS playoffs last season, Adkins made several acrobatic catches in the 32-31 second-round win over Kennesaw State, and his 2-point conversion catch proved to be the game winner for the Bucs.

I mean that's like their Ryan Miller and he isn't even mentioned in the posts above. Thats a HHUHUUGE loss for the Bucs OL/TE. When you get looks from Bama, LSU and go to USC as a 2 time All-conference player...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT - I see Buc came and mentioned it. So yes, though experienced, the Bucs lost probably their two best OL/TE guys to the SEC. Damn cherrypicking So that's like us next year without Toomey OL and Miller at TE. Very experienced and good but perhaps lacking the star power you need.

THIS. SO. MUCH. THIS. Are they not coached to do that when the QB is releasing the ball? It makes a HUGE difference - - tip balls, interceptns, and just cuts down passing lanes.

I am really asking, are DL not taught to get their hands up more? like silenbob it baffles me more guys dont do this. Literally that was the difference in the game or in some games - a few tips here or there. IF the ETSU DL who tipped ball had caught it we might have lost.

Tipping a ball at the line is a tool in a defensive linemen's tool belt. Sometimes it makes sense to attempt it. Sometimes you have another job to do.

Honestly, we probably saw more tipped balls Saturday because Riddell is 5'11.

Anyone notice that #28 who had 2 previous PI in a short period was called for a third and the refs then changed their mind but replay showed it was obvious PI? Could have been crucial as it would have kept a drive alive and been in FG range,

They never really showed the replay of his first of two that drive. It could have been that the flag they picked up was actually more of a foul than the one they called on him.

ETSU struggled with Joshua Harris all night. Ryan Miller had an uncharacteristically quiet night, but Harris really stepped up to fill the gap.

I'm sure that play was one of the four CLay mentioned on the show yesterday that he sent to the SoCon office.
