Last years team probably would not have won this game. It's great to have a QB! We couldn't run the ball with our running backs yet we still found a way to win. Defense played great.

They were stacking the box like all teams do and we came out throwing the ball. I can't believe how much we thru it compared to last year. I thought Roper's play calling except for a couple was good. He certainly kept them off balance. And you can tell he has confidence in Huff. Wasn't perfect but it will do.

Now dad gum it, I want to see FU in the Top 20 on Monday!

Honestly, that's probably our toughest road game this season. Night game in Johnson City against a motivated and good ETSU squad and a head coach familiar with all of our personnel and defensive schemes.

Furman's got everything they want in front of them.

Closing time.

I was really amused watching Roberto make snow angels in front of two adults dressed like pirates. Jumper gave them a yell, and the pirate just nods at him.
Folks, check out your quarterback on this play. Do you think he wants to win??

This play told me all I wanted to know about Huff.

GoFurman - I don't think JR cares a damn about that.
He commented that we're going to run our plays at Clemson to win the game.
Not to play it safe.

I'm sure we will see some new wrinkles this weekend to the offense, and the BUCS have to stop the DIN offense.
To be fair, ETSU did stop our O. . We won. AWESOME. I’m elated. but we really only had 20 points until a run with a few seconds left

What won this game was Defense and the DL of Furman. Which I loved !! Creating turnovers and all that pressure on their qb Riddell. That’s what won the game. Allowing only 14 points. We just keep punting to them and they couldn’t do anything with it. Awesome!

Also we did play a little safe on O. So many runs on first down for 1 yd. Throw on first! After all the throws at Clemson I felt we were a little conservative tonight on first down. Even if you wanna run Roberto to keep a D honest you don’t have to always do it on first down. To be fair ETSU did much the same. Both defenses did great on first down bc both offenses were determined to run on that down. I think both coaches may look at tape and wonder if they shoulda thrown a few more on first down

Other than the completely blown coverage on the TD. The defense has played well.

The only thing really bothering me is that ETSU plays a ton of close games and they are really good at winning them late.

According to the stat sheet

Furman had

3 Sacks
9 Tackle for Loss
3 interceptions
7 pass breakups
8 QB Hurries
1 forced fumble
4 takeaways

That's pretty dominant.

Dude’s the football equivalent of Matt Rafferty.

Huff is a baller. Tons of moxie.
His left arm was hanging down pretty "limp" on his way off the field. Was good to see him back in for that final drive. Love the toughness...but lowering your shoulder in QB pads against Safeties and LBs is eventually going to knock you out of a game, or worse.

That was a tough game. Very physical. On the road. We've got things we need to do better, but we forced turnovers and took advantage of them. Time will tell how big of a win this was. For now, I'm happy with it.

It may have seemed to be an off night on offense but we still ended up with 409 total yards to ETSU's 352. We rushed for 191 yards. Roberto had 80 on 10 carries. Of course 46 yards were on his last carry. ETSU only ran for 80. Their all SoCon RB averaged less than 3 yards per carry.
Everything about the game suggested Furman was the better team. Encouraging that we could look a bit disconnected on offense, and put up a decent offensive night and score 27.

That said, player of the game may be Jack Rhodes. Falling on that fumble on the punt may have been the biggest play of the contest.
Yes but they had ruled CC down before the fumble so not a factor but still a good hustle play.

Minus the long TD pass, ETSU averaged less than 4 yards per play. Their defense kept them in it. I was surprised by the lack of wrinkles in the run game. It was never abandoned but very limited from a play calling perspective. Maybe that's a strategy to keep things simple and promote tempo - Furman's turnover advantage was obviously crucial tonight, and those things may be connected.

Huff is too tough sometimes, goodness.

Riddell wasn't able to progress down from Huzzie and kept forcing it . . . Definitely a big difference at QB in this game, decisive for sure.

Now hold on. Jackal etc tells me it’s all about POINTS. not yards between the 20s. I get told that ALL. THE. TIME. we really only had 20 points. That’s similar to last yr.

Can’t have your cake and eat it too. So now it’s about yards?? Not points??? Ok
