BTW - Does WKU really call themselves the “Tops” ???

That’s nasty :?

…better than being the “Bottoms” though … FUBeAR would imagine…

Found a super secret image of the "Bottoms" helmet but didn't feel like it was appropriate to post here. Maybe in the most improved position thread though.
Found a few others -

Washington State has a "Wazzu" helmet
Technically, Montana has always worn a nickname ('Griz) of their nickname (Grizzlies)
ETSU (Buccaneers) frequently goes by "Bucs" and for a while had that moniker on their football uniform
Nevada has a "Pack" helmet.
Miss. State has "State"
Ole Miss technically has a nickname of their college
South Alabama (Jaguars) has a "Jags"

It's fairly ubiquitous. Florida has "Gators" script. South Carolina has used "Carolina" script. Cal, Pitt, UCLA, Maryland, Oklahoma State, Vandy, and Michigan State have all done some form of it. Idaho, Maine, NC A&T, and Colgate all use it currently at the FCS level.

I have mixed feelings about the “Dins” script. Taken at face value it looks cool. But I’m such a sucker for our classic Diamond F look….i suppose for one game a year I’m good w it.
With you here PC Dins isn’t my favorite. DIAMOND F forever. I struggle with the new knight moniker on a lot of our stuff.

Nothing better than the Diamond F and nothing can replace it! I like the new helmets and the "Dins" on the black helmet but would rather see our alternate logo of the Paladin on the helmet. Overall though, great looking helmets!!

I think the helmets look cool... BUT I still think it is super dumb to refer to the PALADINS as "Dins". Wildcats and Catamounts can logically be shortened to "cats", Bulldogs can be "dogs" and Gamecocks can be shortened to "cocks" but the "Din" is not a thing. "Pala" is not a modifier of "din". ETSU isn't the "Neers" and Clemson isn't the "Gers" for good reason. We don't have to be like every other school - and that's a valuable lesson for our students. "Paladins" is a name with history, significance, and class, and we should strive to educate others when needed rather than succumb to the sportsbro trends of the hour. Besides, the folks that have never heard of a "paladin" don't know what to make of "Dins" either.

1) White with the diamond-F is irreplaceable.
2) I like the matte purple.
3) If the Dins helmet were white with purple script, I would love it.
4) Keep the receipt on the black helmet with the diamond-F. Mid.
5) Hey Bookstore, offer us some Nike gear with the script Dins on it.
#1. I am a traditionalist so to speak. Not a big fan of the grey, black or silver.

Why not just spell out Paladins? Not a fan of 'dins.

Also … Tusculum Pioneers has ‘Neers merch & Tennessee is widely known as the Vols, rarely called the Volunteers these days

Maybe it’s the 3 syllables that leads to shortening without, necessarily, the original word containing components of words that are more likely to be 2 syllables and compound or ‘near-compound’ words.

Placing full script on helmets is a low-class thing to do, and you all know it.

Symbols versus Words on helmets is akin to the Catholic-Protestant divide. Symbols are important for communicating ideas, but sometimes people need or want things spelled out. So our Diamond has an F within it. That's good. But you should never go full Protestant. That's how we ended up with Jim Jones' Peoples Temple and the Florida Gators football helmets. It ain't right.

HOWEVER, if the kids these days want to call the Paladins the "Dins", well, let them have their little dalliance. They'll grow up one day. If not, they'll find themselves in the Guyana jungle being screamed at by a speed freak on a bullhorn to commit revolutionary suicide. Then they'll wish to high heaven they never allowed "dins" on the side of a helmet.

Love the helmets. The purple helmet is the best of those types we have tried. Nothing ever trumps the traditional white but these are nice.

Agree DP. Those purple matte helmets with the white diamond F surfaced a few years ago but never materialized. Of all the alternate helmets these look the best. The 2 alternates last year were not good at all.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
