I love the direction of our football program, much improved. We hired a bunch of good football coaches this past off season. Our QB is a "baller" coming from Coach Swinney after the game.

Went back and watched the condensed game. A couple of other offensive thoughts.

1. Maybe the prettiest screen we threw all game didn't make it to the posted highlights. We ran Anderson in an orbital motion behind the QB, faked the pass to him in the flat, and then fired it to Abrams.

2. Huff can make those sideline throws against Cover 2 we've really been missing the last few years. He's able to hit guys coming out of their break and drop the ball between the CB and Safety.

3. Huff does an excellent job working through progressions, keeping his feet moving and eyes downfield, and when nothing's there he takes off. He showed a lot of poise against one of the nation's most feared pass rushes. Very few of his passes were off target.

4. Offensive line, largely, played excellent all day. Again, Clemson is no small task.

5. Wayne Anderson has looked great to this point. He finds open areas in the defense and has the ability to get out in space. Furman moves him around a lot.

6. We're showing a willingness to throw the ball to the running backs, even the big guys. Defenses aren't going to be able to ignore Roberto and Abrams as pass catchers. Huff threw several balls downfield to our running backs.

7. The RBs looked good. Abrams, in particular, looks shifty for a big guy.

Another interesting number.

Ian Williams has 12 kickoffs in 2 games. 10 have gone for touchbacks. If that 83% holds, that's an excellent number and will almost always put our defense in great field position.

Just for comparison's sake, Furman had only 20 touchbacks all of last season. The SoCon leader last year, Samford, had 26. So, Furman is already to half their output from last year in two games.

This is a WAY underrated stat. Banging that ball out-the-back changes everyone’s life!

During 1 season of FUBeAR’s HS Coaching days, we had a kicker that was 100% touchbacks for the entire season. His goal was to kick KICKOFFS thru the uprights and he did several times (made it to the NFL as a Punter & KO guy, btw). Kept our cover Team interested by giving (small) awards for 1st to cross goal line, 1st to touch the (non)returner…stuff like that. But never having to fret over a big return and always knowing you should have good field position if the D does their job is like SuperDiovan for Coaches!!!

If a Williams kickoff lands in the Wicked Weed concession, does he get a free beer?

Surprised at your suggestion, Davemeister. That’s D3 thinking.

If he kicks a kickoff and it reaches the Wicked Weed Concession Tent, all Patrons wearing Furman swag, and in line at the time of the kickoff get that beer free and are entered into a drawing for free beer for the whole season (1 winner/game)

Or…to limit exposure a bit, it could be the 1st X number of people in line … with X = number of FU Points on the Board at the time of kick…except opening kickoff…then X = Furman points scored in prior game (can carry over from prior season in Game 1).

Make it so, ADJD!

Our HS kicker put every ball was well through the end zone.

It was amusing when we'd play down in Deep South Georgia to watch the opposing fans gawk at a legitimate D1 kicker. Most of those teams were still using the "heavy foot."

We hit a 52 yarder in the playoffs against Atkinson County and they honestly had fans trying to get him to sign autographs.

Well…Mr.Jackal…FUBeAR can’t top your 52 yd FG in the Playoffs story, but he can at least tie it with a 52 yd ‘walk-off’ FG in the Playoffs following a furious, amazing come-from-behind effort with almost no time on the clock…AND FUBeAR can bring pics (moving ones) and audio (terrible, turn it down…kids go CRAZY) to prove it.

Note: Y’all should be able to spot FUBeAR in the mass of humanity at the end. He’s the 1 wearing green…

No more moral victories

This is a must win game to me

I hope we get the job done!

Agree DR, they got a big wake up call in Chucktown. I’m sure the Paladins will see a different ET team than the one that showed up the first two games.

That is for sure. ETSU will be very spirited and hoping to catch Furman on a "moral" victory high.

Agree with posts above. I really really really want this one. Yes we can lose and make playoffs but it makes it a lot easier if we win this one. Gonna be pissed if citadel beats them and ETSU beats us. I too fear the wake-up call scenario. Quarrels will have their attention. Get a 1-0 conf start and win over top 20 team. Get in polls !!! Please win this !!!

Listening to Ryan Miller's comments, I think they know this is the game they've had circled on their calendar.

This is the thing that most concerns me about ETSU.

They aren't overwhelming in any particular facet of the game, but they are typically solid on defense and have the ability to pop off big plays.

This is Jacob Saylors. He's an excellent runner and Furman is going to have to make sure he doesn't get free.

This is Will Huzzie. He's an excellent receiver and Furman is going to have to make sure he doesn't get free.

If you limit those two guys from popping off big plays, you have a pretty good shot at slowing down the ETSU offense. Almost a quarter of ETSU's entire offensive output Saturday came on those two plays.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
