NCAA DI Football Championship Committee to reveal FCS top-10 ranking
https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/arti ... 10-ranking

INDIANAPOLIS — The Division I Football Championship Committee will announce a top-10 ranking, Wednesday, Nov. 6, during halftime of the 8 p.m. ET Miami (OH) vs. Ohio game on ESPN2.

For the fourth straight year, the sport committee will reveal the rankings ahead of Selection Sunday. The early reveal will provide insight on potential teams competing for top seed positions in the upcoming 2019 Division I Football Championship.

In addition to building excitement around the FCS playoffs, the reveal may have some bearing on the final bracket that will be publicized during the selection show on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 12:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

The 2019 FCS championship field consists of 10 automatic qualifiers and 14 at-large qualifiers. The top eight teams will be seeded and receive first-round byes and host second-round games. The 16 other teams will bid to host first-round games.

All rounds of the FCS playoffs can be seen on ESPN’s family of networks with first-round games taking place Saturday, Nov. 30 and concluding with the national championship game at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, Saturday, January 11 at Noon (ET) on ABC.

That's great news. Assuming we don't get blown out by either VMI or Wofford - or somehow lose to Point - I agree with many that one win in our final two SoCon games should guarantee a playoff spot. There's just not enough good teams this year to fill out a 24-team field and I can't imagine we would drop more than 5-6 spots from a loss to either. But let's not put it in the hands of the committee. Win out and let's make some noise in December.

We still stand a solid chance at a top 8 seed if we can WIN OUT and score 1 or 2 upsets for teams currently ranked above us, very possible and worth keeping an eye on.

Northern Iowa and South Dakota St play on the 16th. Both ranked above the Paladins. FU winning out gives FU the auto-bid and top 8 seed.

This VMI game scares me. Here is why. Our pass defense has not really seen an all-out air assault since the Ga. State game. Yes I know VMI runs it some but I expect they will throw 35-40 times Saturday. We struggle putting pressure on the QB. VMI is out of the race and has nothing to lose. They have no pressure to stay in the race. They can pull out all the stops. There is a lot on the line for Furman. How will we handle the pressure?

Did you miss the Samford game?

Remember, unlike most years, this Furman team goes 5 or 6 deep at CB. Against passing teams and in passing situations, we are running a lot of sub packages with a bunch of DBs on the field.

When you add Wilkins and Willis into that mix, Furman can go with 7 or 8 guys in coverage. Hard for a passing team to throw into that. If we can get a lead and put some pressure on, it's virtually impossible to pass into that look.

Against Samford, a spread passing team, their air game ended up just being a bunch of flares and tunnel screens.

Mercer has a pretty high level passing game with their QB, we did a great job on their entire offense. I like what we are doing on Defense! I look for us to have a little extra juice come Saturday.

Neither Mercer or Sammy challenged us vertically. VMI will. Their QB and receivers are much better than MU or Sammy. Like I said we have not faced a passing attack like VMI since Ga, State.

VMI is a much improved team. They are 4-5. Yes, they could beat us. However, I'm not losing any sleep worrying about that possibility.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
