Offensively, it's hard to know what to expect out of the Citadel. They appear to be an option team, but threw it 30+ times two weeks ago. They only threw it three times last week.
Rainey is their key offensive cog and looks a lot better than he did a few weeks ago health wise. To me, he's a little unique as an option QB in that he's built like a fullback and almost seems to seek out contact.
The Citadel has benefitted from playing the SoCon's three worst defenses the last three games. They haven't seen a defense of Furman's quality in a while.
Defensively, they are an aggressive pressure-heavy 3-4 team. They aren't particularly big but are fast and athletic. To me - and perhaps because I am looking for it - because they are a little smaller and athletic, they will give an offense a lot of peculiar looks to disguise pressure. For instance - two linemen and both ILBs standing shoulder to shoulder in the A-Gaps:
This game is going to be in our offensive line's hands. The Citadel's offense isn't particularly explosive, and I think a strong day from our OL and running game will put us in a good spot to win. Their defense just saw perhaps the offense closest to ours in terms of style and personnel (WCU).
