So, any Furman game is a great place to be where ever it is. But the Campbell thread got me thinking:

Last years road sked was fantastic from a fan standpoint. We got to travel to Williamsburg and take in some history, or ride a roller coaster or whatever at Busch. Then Lexington in the Fall is always great with nearby good food and wineries. A trip to Charleston for more great history, food and drink. And there was Oxford and The Grove and all of that. Those four alone make it an A+ road sked, and we made two of those trips (missed W&M due to a conflict).

This years road sked is ... not so much. Buies Creek is... yeah. Birmingham has some decent places if you know where to go but for the travel time, its no Williamsburg. Cullowhee? Maybe some of the mountain stuff but it's no Lexington. Macon? And then we have games in Spartanburg and Pickens County.

So while the commutes to Western, Wofford and Clemson are easy, the areas we are going kind of suck in this fans opinion. We will consider going to BHAM because of some family connections but as we live away from the GVL area, the other trips are less likely. Maybe Clemson.

Looking forward to 2026 when we will have Knoxville, Richmond, Charleston and Lexington to go to. Those are easy ones to talk Mrs. FUATT into.

Is Sammy's Go-Go Club still open in Birmingham? I was there one night when they had midget tossing back in the late 80's.

Macon is a GREAT place to visit - especially if you are a fan of Southern Rock / Blues music!

Stay downtown at the (relatively) new Hotel 45 - a Marriott property retrofitted into the old Bankers Insurance Office building that was built in 1923. It's upscale, quirky, and way cool with a fun, rooftop bar. Plenty of very good restaurants and bars up and down the streets nearby. It's not downtown Greenville (yet), but it's still really good.

Take in the Allman Brothers Museum at The Big House, where the band lived - eat at H&H Soul Food Diner where they ate ... and take in the Capricorn Studios (Mercer owns and revitalized it) Tour - where they (and many other TOP recording artists of the 60's and 70's) recorded. There's also the Otis Redding (mini) Museum and the Little Richard House.

If you haven't 'done' Macon yet ... and done it right ... then you're doing it WRONG!

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
