I was approached by a high ranking FU alumni to gauge interest and potentially start a fundraising drive to create a statue for Coach Sheridan in front of the Stadium. As much as we all know deserving he is of this recommendation and how great it would be....I am almost at a loss to think how this money could be better served for improvements in the weight room (which all athletes use), new stadium lights, better sound system, End Zone building improvement, FFPA Tail Gating pavilion......??

(but knowing Coach as we do....he was a humble guy and would deflect this type of discussion)

However.....
He is in the NCAA CFB HOF, Furman HOF and SC HOF
He Won 6 SoCON Football Championships in his 8 years here....(6 out of 8)
Plus is name is on the Horse in front of the Stadium
His name is on the the Facade of the Stadium
He was a NCAA 1AA National Runner Up

When we compare him to other "good" Coaches at Furman....it is a no brainer...

Joe Williams Basketball
Joe wan 3 SoCON Bball Championships in 8 years (3 out of 8)
Took the Bball to the NCAA Tournament 5 times in 8 years (5 out of 8)
Furman HOF

Jimmy Satterfield Football
He won 3 SoCON Championships in his 8 years (3 out of 8)
He won an NCAA 1AA National Championship
Furman HOF, SC HOF

Doug Allison Soccer
He has won 11 SoCON regular season championship is his 30 years (11 out of 30)
He has won 9 SoCON tourney championships (9 out 0f 30)

Bob Richey Basketball
He has won 1 SoCON Championship in his 7 years (1 out of 7)
He has taken the team to the NCAA tournament once (1 out of 7)

Comments welcomed.....

Coach Sheridan should have a permanent form of recognition. That should be decided by the men who he coached in my opinion. They know him best. CCH knows what his program needs financially. Great idea Choir Boy!

I would love to see your ideas combined. The "Dick Sheridan Fieldhouse at Paladin Stadium" has a nice ring to it and might be something that donors are more likely to buy into.
This a thousand times. We do not need another statue, we need something that will help us recruit, train and win.

Agree - besides, a statue of Coach Sheridan might give FUBeAR a case of severe heart palpitations. When Coach was alive, those were always present when FUBeAR was in the proximity of Coach, but because, post-FUBeAR's playing days, Coach was such a nice guy, and it was so much fun talking with him, the palpitations quickly abated.

With a, most likely, larger than life stone/metal visage of Coach Sheridan, there would be no accompanying warm conversation, so FUBeAR fears, at his now advanced age, the palpitations evoked upon the unveiling, and going unabated, could be fatal to FUBeAR.

(New) Field House / Endzone facility is probably a better way to go than a statue...if anyone, besides FUBeAR, is interested in keeping FUBeAR vertical for a while longer.
