Purple Helmets

This is my hill upon which I shall stand.

I stand with you. Our traditional uniforms are fine.

In honor of Ernest Gibson, who shouted "purple pants, purple pants" in the locker room before home games -
Just do it at least one time for him.
Go all purple at a home one day and invite him back to see it.
He did his share of putting Furman football on the map.

I don't think the all purple uniform has ever been worn. Not a bad idea and have a "Purple Out" for a home game

I will admit... I could be ok with White Helmet, Purple Jersey, Purple pant, and black shoe. That is a clean strong look.

Last time I remember seeing Furman in Purple Pants was 1992 at Marshall. We lost 48-6 and that put a rather bad taste in my mouth regarding Purple Britches.

If we go back that far then maybe consider that 3 & 1/2 SoCon championships ('78, '80, '81, '82) were done in purple pants.
White pants for away games started in mid '82 when Dennis Wright suggested it and dressed out in it to show HCDS.

Not sure it was Dennis that suggested it as he was only a Soph the 1st time we broke out the All Whites in Chapel Hill in 1980.

He may have, but FUBeAR believes we were all championing the idea, but #12 was definitely the “model” for them…to get them approved.

But…we only wore them for our “money games” until we beat the Cocks wearing them in ‘82…after losing to NCSU in them in the opener. Believe we lobbied hard to stay in All Whites @ ETSU and @ Marshall in ‘82, but lost the discussion, as one often does/did when “selling” an idea to Coach Sheridan.

But…after we beat GT in ‘em to open ‘83, it was All White, All the Time on the road, until Coach Satterfield broke out the purple pants again, for some reason, at some time, during his HC tenure.
