It's hard to know how the coaching staff evaluated the DBs after the season. We were very young in the defensive backfield and lost a lot of guys to injury and graduation.
One positive takeaway from the season was we found out Billy Lewis can objectively play. He had a strong season as a freshman and gave off some Hugh Ryan "dude is everywhere" vibes. I do not think anyone will be wringing their hands if we go into next season with Lewis and Caleb Williams at safety with Tre McLeod in the mix.
Assuming AK Burrell and Justin Hartwell return from injury in top form, we should have more flexibility at SPUR. Burrell I suspect could play both Safety or SPUR, but with Lewis' emergence, his highest utility may be at SPUR.
My guess is these new transfers are going to help fill out the depth chart at corner with Moson, Dalton, and a the surprising Javaris Jones. Both guys looked to be well respected (I think Abraham was team captain) and high IQ players.
As far as SPUR, it will be interesting to see the development there. By season's end, we appeared to be primarily using Achina, a more prototypical outside linebacker, and Jones, a more prototypical nickel corner at the position depending on personnel and game situation.
