Transfer Portal Thread

Somethings gonna have to be done about xfer portal. Even FBS playoff teams are losing players.

Theres only 3 things that need to be addressed

1. Timing of Portal entries (seems it should be after season ends)
2. Amt of NIL contracts. Some of them are crazy.
3. Lack of commitment or contracts. Even the pros have contracts.

Other thoughts?

I'm sure the transfer portal window is to accommodate kids moving schools before the spring semester.

God forbid these "student Athletes" miss any classroom time.

Gray - listed as R-Sr, but has another year (Covid) and believe he plans to use it playing for the Paladins


Offense losses - 4 starters / 5 on 2-Deep
Defense losses - 4 starters / 4 on 2-Deep
Total O&D losses - 8 starters / 9 on 2-Deep

And whomever was glad Wofford retained two good players (despite finishing 7th). BOO TO THAT. Pulley and Coombs. They beat us. Again. It’s better for us that they lose the two guys than retain them. And right now I don’t feel good about getting a W on Wofford next year. Beat citadel. Beat Wofford.

I'm not sure you completely read all of the old posts. I posted it was a big deal that they were able to get those two guys back, but I never applied happiness, sadness, or anger to it. I guess because I didn't outright voice my displeasure you took it as I was glad somehow? Anyways....

By the time this is all said and done when we get to fall practice, every team is going to have a lot of question marks I believe. You can see from Bear's 2 deep pics there there is going to be a decent amount of turnover from the top teams. Mercer's doesn't look too bad so far, so they are certainly better positioned to stay near the top. WCU and UTC have a lot of holes to fill. Samford always seems to have a lot of turnover so who know what you'll get from them. ETSU has lost a few good young players already. It's hard to talk about or project out how easy or hard any game looks at this point.

This is sort of a more complicated analysis given the injuries this year. We have a number of returning starters that weren't on the two deep late in the season.

It is a great analysis FUBear. Thanks! But this is a fair point. For instance, you do not see Burrell in there at TE. Or AK Burrell at DB. etc.

If we get the Transfer WR I think we get and he works out, the sting of Hinton will not be so bad.

If we get the OT from VMI... Nettles plus a good Portal RB. And X gets the extra year.

All of sudden most of those gaps are filled. Figuring out LB and Bandit from the current players we have becomes the the key if all those dominos fall.

As I see it, we'll return most everyone.

I'm not sure we probably appreciated at the time how crippling it was to lose AK Burrell and Justin Hartwell right before the season. Those were two likely defensive starters. Add to that whatever happened with the Tate kid from Georgia State, who played a game or two and then disappeared off the roster, and it was a massive blow to the depth chart in the defensive backfield right out of the gate.

On a positive note, we had a season where we took some lumps and got better. We found out Billy Lewis can play.

Do we have a legit shot at Poindexter from VMI? That would be a big get given some of his offers.

I kind of figured Dudzik's tweet was about a slot WR. I have my guesses there but I'll wait and see.

Getting Stephens and extra year would be the biggest offseason "addition" to me.

With Achina not on the roster, it feels like we almost have to find a LB in the portal but we'll see I guess

He's on the school roster, just not that depth chart because he was out with the concussion.
