• Transfer Portal Thread

The portal doesn't open until December 9 (closes December 28), but thought I would go ahead and have a thread available for any Furman or SoCon transfers of note. Hoping for a much less active portal this year for Furman in regard to those who are leaving.

Currently, I could only find 2 names who say they are going to enter the portal from Furman.

-DB Brayden Holmes - actually made that post on 11/7/24 I think and I missed it.
-WR Miles Moss - PWO from St. Thomas Aquinas in FL

I would imagine we might see Charles Ingram's name soon since he's off the roster. Also wouldn't surprise me if at least 1 QB ended up there but I'm hoping that's not the case.

Going over the numbers, I'm not really sure Furman has a lot of room to go after many people in the portal, but Hendrix, Verna, and McCutchen have followed several linemen so far. Seems that will be an area they are at least going to target. Haven't seen any CB follows yet, but the losses of Perkins, Ingram, and Holmes make me think they are at least going to be looking to see who's available.

-VMI has 4+ players who have announced plans to enter the portal

-Wofford's Isaiah Wadsworth announced he will enter the portal. Looks like he could be a grad program causality as he was listed a 5th year on the Wofford roster this year. Had 38 tackles this year for Wofford.

If we can just portal back in some of the injured DB that will help.

I think @FUWolfpacker that you are right about the numbers. We have few seniors, an incoming recruiting class and we will now have to adhere to a 105 roster limit. So there is not going to be a lot of room. We may have to cut some walk ons even.

You know, I thought I read that if you weren't opting in to the revenue sharing, then you were not going to be bound to the 105 roster limit but could only offer the 85 scholarships (or 63). I can't find that now, but this stuff is changing all the time so maybe the initial thought was that the 105 wouldn't apply to FCS but it certainly looks that way now. If that's the case, we certainly are going to see some PWO's hit the portal to try and find a spot.

I imagine some work is being done by the coaches in the portal is in the event that some guys don't come back.

I read that too (that if you opt out of rev share that you did not have a roster limit) but I think the rule is looking like the 105 applies to all D1. I don't think it's final and is still up in the air.

Agree coaches are looking at Portal regardless. In this day and age there is always a surprise.

Technically not Socon but QB Tyler Riddell from GWebb formerly at ETSU.

Jeez … Pretty sure he was the Bucs QB when FUBeAR played @ ETSU in the mini dome in ‘82.

He and his CarrotTop do have been around since former Falcons Head Coach, Mike Smith, was playing LB for the LandLockedSeaFarers.

Seriously, he was HS Class of 2019. 2024 was his 6th year.

Tyler Riddell commits to East Tennessee State...

Ahhhh…. Looks like he…

‘19 - ETSU - 4 games - Redshirt
‘20 - ETSU - Covid Year
‘21 - ETSU Season 1
‘22 - ETSU Season 2
‘23 - ETSU 3 games - Medical waiver AKA “medical redshirt”
‘24 - G-W - Season 3
‘25 - ? - will be Season 4

Funny … looks like the QB who “beat out” Tyler Huff at PC was Riddell’s backup @ Gardner-Webb this season. How could that Coach at PC not see Huff’s talent? FUBeAR ‘fell in love’ after seeing Huff’s 1st few plays for PC vs. Morehead State in the Spring of ‘21

Wofford RB Ryan Ingram and Samford OL Cooper Frazier will be in the portal.
Isn’t Ryan Ingram Wofford main RB ?

EDIT. YES he is. Big loss there. Granted, Wofford doesn’t have a Grad program and he was a senior so had to leave. Regardless good for him to be gone. He was the main dude as their RB

FUWolfpacker, I Appreciate you keeping up with this. This - transfers etc - goes a long way to determining success these days. Consider Huff and Pline. Interested in who other schools lose

FUBeAR, Good point. Yet another strong example of coaches not knowing what’s right in front of them on the field literally every day. It’s crazy. But it Happens All. The. Time.

This is why I get tired of the “don’t you think the coaches know best ?!” question….

I think Ryan Ingram has been Wofford's main running back since the Obama Administration.

Three of our coaches are following a recently-announced OL transfer from Holy Cross, Coach Roper's former school

Smart. I can see our coaches going hard on HC transfers because there are so many connections and we would have a really good idea of what we are going to get.

UTC OL Jacob Klein, WCU OL Caleb Carter, WCU LB Antarron Turner, and WCU OL Derek Simmons are entering as grad transfers.

Something to watch, Kerwin Bell's name has come up as a possibility at UNC-Charlotte (as well as Tre Lamb)

Davidson HC, Scott Abell, was hired at Rice. I believe Colder and Mainsah were both on his staff at some point. Just something that might be worth watching. (I have no inside info on this btw)

Very smart re Abell.

Colder is originally a Northern Virginia guy so he knows "big city". He is a good guy and a good recruiter. Got married this past off season. Cost of living is higher in Houston but money might be better. When guys get married and start thinking about kids, that financial issue becomes a really big deal.

I don't know Mainsah as well. You hate to say these kinds of things but given our DB performance this year, it might hold him back.

Furman would be a good transition to Rice given the high academic nature of both schools.
