Here were our 4 main issues throughout year

TURNOVERS
MUCH IMPROVED. well we only had one today. People (myself too) said If we just cut those down we would win. We actually had an even ratio today. Still lost. But this helped. So we fixed this for today

PENALTIES
again MUCH IMPROVED. 3 penalties today is great. Great. Except… oh man that roughing the passer was the freakin stupidest penalty ever.

—————————————
Same as ever. We. Cannot. Run. The. Ball. 1.6 yards per rush. Just embarrassing. Horrible.

We cannot stop the run of opponent. Still had a problem today. Wofford got stronger rushing as game wore on

NEW PROBLEM !!!!!!! We can’t even snap the ball. High school teams have better shotgun snaps than we do. For the 14 bad and slow and low snaps we had… That affects 14 plays but also keeps our offense from performing well which ends our drives. Literally if we could just snap the ball better we might have won the game. Just that. Might have extended two drives and scored 10 more points. Kept defense rested more too

I agree. The inability to consistently snap the ball is astounding. I would add even those snaps that weren’t low or scuttled were slow. If you’re Carson Jones it’s impossible to get in a rhythm if you never know if the ball isn’t going to make it into your hands . I even thought, “Put the long snapper in there for a change.” Granted he’s not an ideal blocker but at least the snap is better.

Great observation of our NEW PROBLEM. I'm wondering do you think if we had an option to go to, we would not use it?

I can see that coaches have no option..and if thats the case we will lose the rest of our games until we find an option..maybe next year or later..this is an absurd situation

Is snapping the ball that hard to do? Watching the snaps on tv they are quick and chest high every time. Agree very hard to have any timing when the QB has to bend over to get the ball.

Not necessarily. I thought you were smarter than that…. Maybe that guy that snaps better is in the doghouse. I KNOW that 72 snaps the ball better. He Has some trouble blocking but today maybe it woulda been worth switching. There are reasons.

There you go SNIPING. AGAIN. That’s what you do. I quote “Great observation of our NEW PROBLEM”.

You contribute no positives but only seem to critique ME. others ( TONS of guys here ) are posting all about the snaps especially in the game thread. . - as was Cole Neely on TV etc.

Yet you don’t quote A SINGLE ONE OF THOSE RESPONSES which are more negative than me. I even post a few positives and where we need to improve. why do you only quote me among many ???
. Quoting me and not others shows a bias. Either quote ALL the posts or most regarding this or None. Not just mine.

SNIPING - A guy who only shows up to note the negative etc. Contributes NOTHING. cmon man. I thought we were past this.

Also, I’m gonna lay it out there for you in a more MACRO sense. WHOSE FAULT IS IT IF WE DON’T HAVE A SOLUTION???????? CCH. in the end. He recruits. He develops OL. He decides if we need transfers. The buck stops with him. I even heard from a guy who knows that we didn’t take a transfer at OL this summer because our coaches felt “good enough with who we had “. Ha. Riiiiight. So if we don’t have a solution there is no excuse. These aren’t injured OL. this isn’t the defense who is injured as nauseum. These are the OL we assumed we would have and the same guys we started the year with

You wouldn’t know about solutions. You only come here about four times a year - directly to respond JUST TO ME. and with no answers. Just pure negativity.

So you are saying our coaches are choosing the option or player that puts us in the best situation to lose? Ha Ha!
Maybe. BUT IT HAPPENS. thought you knew more - that happens ALL. THE. TIME. Surprised you laugh since you know so very much. You KNOW what I say here is true —-
Occasionally they certainly do keep us in a position to lose IF

1). it means keeping someone in doghouse / discipline…. Don’t believe me? It makes us far more likely to lose to not have Josh Harris on WR routes but they put us in a best situation to lose there !!! And they should. Good for our coaches.

I recall an issue with Isaac West like that. They put us in a position to lose with him. Similar.

2). Your practice stunk all week or you showed up late etc. Then you don’t get to play

Wally Pipp baby. Why do I have to keep repeating this. You act as if Furman coaches are infallible - if that was the case we wouldn’t be staring down the barrel of 2 - 9 season !!!!!!! HA. if our coaches were soooo good we would win more than 2 games this year.

Check Wally Pipp. Various reports. But basic story is in 1925 Pipp was the clear Starter for the NY Yankees.. he then sat out a game or three and so Lou Gehrig was inserted in Wally Pipps spot in the lineup. Lou Gehrig NEVER RELINQUISHED THAT SPOT and went on to play 2130 consecutive games as a super star. But hey, coaches don’t make mistakes…. Right??????

I am going to formally apologize to FUPlayer74 for coming off a little harsh here. We are all frustrated at this point.

I think he (FUPlayer74) may do likewise and apologize to me.

Yes and no.

Is it simple? Not really. It gets a little more complex considering the center is really the only guy on the field having to do two things at once - snap and block.

At the same time, is it something that you would expect a Center at a D1 level to be able to consistently do? Yes.

From my vantage point, it seems the center is trying to consistently keep the snaps low. My recollection is that Petit has not played center at Furman (at least not in the games), so he's probably learning the position. He is probably intentionally trying to keep the snaps low, which is vastly preferable to snapping the ball high - neither are on target, but the latter carries the risk of the ball sailing over the QB's head.

I do not know the reason, but the coaching staff seems to feel more comfortable with the combination of players. So, our offense may be willing to accept some off target snaps over potentially better snaps with a different mix on the line.

Not simple at all. Try three things at once. The center has to make the MKE and line calls as well. Needs to have some solid football IQ. Sucks that Tex Elliott tore his achilles as he had some center experience in his past. The calls in the 4th Q on 2nd and 1 with 4 mins left and again later on 4th and 1 showed little confidence in our line. 1 yard.......just 1 is all you needed.

Another positive,

With Luke Clark's return, it appears Furman was able to hold Trevor Short out of the Wofford game. That should allow him to redshirt. He'll be a good player for us.

In fact, with the exception of Kaserud, who was put into duty with injuries to Stephens and Dudek, we should be able to redshirt all of the defensive front line guys from the 2024 class (Dobbins, Baldwin, Knauber, Short, etc.) That will pay dividends for us in a few years when those guys are three or four years into the program.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
