I like the matchup.
Wofford is 108 in FCS in rushing. They are 76 in passing. They do not have a lot of offense I don't care who they play at QB.
70th in Rush D, but their strength is they do not give up much through the air. 23rd ranked in passing yards allowed.
Wofford is not a great net punting team. With Hinton returning well, we can do well on the field position angle.
So, my guess... we see a good dose of 5 at QB and we block them, run the ball, screens and draws, some QB Run and Zone read game. Try to control the ball like we did at VMI BUT limit the soul stealing, gut wrenching Turnovers.
I think Defense has another good game. We win a close lowish scoring game playing ball control offense and solid bend but don't break defense.
We have a shot. Though they are better than VMI. They are trying to finish 6-6. 6-5 FCS. it’s their aim.
They are not great on O. For sure. Just saying they appear better in O with Odom at QB. two best wins are Richmond - good win. And Sam. Both with Odom playing. Without him they scored 5 and 7 !!! Vs UTC and ETSU. With Jim they seem to score in 20s or so
One thing we are missing in this analysis. Which AP is right about. Wofford creates turnovers. Much easier to limit turnovers with a bigger quick strike offense. It’s the old Furman theory on D. Make em drive 14 plays and a turnover or big penalty occurs. Time consuming keep away is great if we can EXECUTE.
Unfortunately they are ok? at creating turnovers. Matchups baby. We give the bell a lot. They take it somewhat . Wofford has a + 2 turnover ratio in the year it appears. While not overly impressive that’s not bad considering three different QBs have played and they have played all of the top tier SoCon teams in Mercer UTC Western and ETSU.
