I am reversing the order..
I was allowing for turnovers to a degree (esp as a new QB and freshman Center matured) but have had my fill at this point. We give it away at an ALARMING rate and ... in combination.. we don't get any to go our way!! ... 4-0 CSU. 5-0 UTC. -9 RATIO in two games? That's a BAD YEAR. Negative nine.. Just pathetic.. CSU with our new starters.. but I didn't think there would be a negative 5 ratio in October.
So now my 4 keys are
ONE - TURNOVERS . Must stay even or within 1 as we don't have much margin for error. Don't give it away more than twice. at most !!!
TWO - STOP THE OPPONENT RUN GAME. Interestingly, this may be more important than having our own run game.. Can't let them rip off consistent 8 yard runs. Consider that we did this at Citadel - and we won. Despite our Complete and Utter lack of a run game - the least in Furman History in a victory we still won... these first two were (in addition to great D overall) were what kept us in that game. We didn't run for crap. But we kept them from running
THREE - our run game. Eventually we just have to have this. Maybe we pass to set the run game up. This week is very telling. Our last 3 games vs Western we have run for 300+, 400+ , and 300+ yards. Not total yards - those are our RUSHING yards !! We will see how far we have fallen or have we advanced since a few games ago. Citadel ran well on Western.
FOUR - penalties. This has improved. Credit where credit is due. From 9 penalties a game to 4 and 5 penalties the last two games. Still untimely (3rd down penalties on our defense at Citadel) but overall better.
