Just don’t like all these blowout scores being posted. FU has had 2 huge wins the last 2 games. We are due for a letdown. WC would like nothing better than to knock us off. The only noon kick we have had this year we acted like we were still aslerp most of the game. Hoping the coaches and the maturity of the team will not let a letdown happen. Hope the team is ready to play come noon on Saturday. I hope all of you are correct and we play a great game but something tells me we will be in a dogfight on Saturday.
Eleven guesses so far - I consider only 3 of the 11 to be "blowout scores" guesses - one 40-point win guess, and two 35-point win guesses. None of the other 8 guesses so far are what I would call a blowout. Winning blowouts is not in Furman's nature since a long time ago. Yes, I would call 52-0 a blowout, but that was against a Division II.

I seem to repeat this every year, but I think a lot of Furman fans tend to remember more fondly the "glory days" through the lens of history.

Go back and look. Even the great Furman teams struggled at times. Sometimes they struggled against bad teams. It wasn't always blowout city.

Football in 2022 is a lot different than it was 20 or 30 years ago. It's a different environment played under different rules.

We don't need a blow out score to make a statement. This game is just as important as Chat and Mercer. The more physical team that does not turn the ball over and limits mistakes will win. Do what we are capable of doing as a team and the score will be in our favor. I expect Wofford to throw everything at us early and often. They will probably come out like their fur is on fire. It might even worry some of the pessimists on this board. :D We just need to prove who the better team is.

Also from whence comes FUBeAR’s signature/tagline…

Some say it's not about the size of the Dogs in the fight, but the size of the fight in the Dogs. I say it's about the size of the Horse that is fixin' to trample them.

I am firmly against cruelty to animals, but I'm willing to put that aside for a while this Saturday from Noon til about 3:30.

Furman 45
Ankle-Biters 14

We blew the doors off them in Spartanburg just last season.

Devin Wynn rushed for over 200 yards.

I don't know the standard for a blowout. I was considering 35 or more points to be a blowout, so by that standard and with 3 more guesses now, I still see only 3 blowout guesses.
Since Wofford became FCS, we are 15-11 against them. In the last 15 years, we are 6-8 against them; and they cancelled in 2020.
Going back, our wins over Wofford have been by the following point differentials:
22 (2021), 20,17,13,5, 38 BLOWOUT (2009), 14,13,7,2,31,9,27,21,30, and 38 BLOWOUT (1995)
Going back, our losses to Wofford have been by the following point differentials:
17 (2019), 18,7,10,3,21,25,25,1,31, 20 (1998).
We did not play them often during a number of the years before 1995.
The y were still NAIA, I believe, 1993 and in 1980 when there were 14-14 ties.
In 1989 we won by 35 BLOWOUT, in 1978 by 24, and in 1976 by 42 BLOWOUT.
We lost to them by 10 in 1979 and by 6 in a977.

Don’t care about points/blowout…but this 1979 loss to NAIA Wofford was a complete physical domination. They beat us like we were their red-headed stepchild’s gub’mint mule. And when we were down, they rubbed our noses in it. And, this was a watershed game for Furman Football. NEVER AGAIN! Never again will we let any Team out-physical us like they did that night. So…thanks…YappyPups. Furman Football owes you a debt of gratitude.

We should pay some of that back by hangin’ half a hundred on them Saturday AND beating them by 39 to be > those other 2 38-point blowouts listed.

Furman 52 - Wofford 13

Well, these UnConklinized YardBarkers sure have played like lions since Coach Androcles Watson removed that thorn from their paw, haven’t they…gave SoCon Champion, Samford, a bit of a tussle on short notice and then winning 3 of 4 against the SoCon NOT’s. Impressive! But, the FleaFlingers remain at or near the bottom of almost every statistical category 5 games into Coach Androcles tenure. So, yes, impressive, but not impressive enough to be competitive with the soon-to-be SoCon Champion Paladins. Furman sends a pre-playoff message and dominates.

My scientific guess:

1. There are three SoCon offenses that are well back of the pack - Wofford, Citadel, and VMI.

The Citadel scored 10 on our defense. VMI scored 3.

2. There are three SoCon defenses surrendering fewer than 20 points per game - Furman, Mercer, and UTC.

Wofford scored 0 against UTC and 7 against Mercer.

3. There are four SoCon teams surrendering over 28 points per game - ETSU, Wofford, VMI, and Western Carolina.

Furman scored 27 on ETSU, 47 on Western Carolina, and 41 on VMI

Therefore, consistent with the data this season, I predict 38-13 Furman.

That last year. Is definitely the exception though. Historically we win at home and they win there. Very home and home series if you will. Until Conklin lost em last year.

Anyway. Given a team willing to throw anything at you I say 30-17 and am happy with any win. But yeah would love a good smack down.

Technically we are about .500 in Spartanburg (21-22-2), but have beaten the brakes off them in Greenville (34-11-5)

Hard to believe the last time Wofford played in Paladin Stadium it was 2018.

Yeah, historically but I mean recently.. cmon ,they were NAIA and D2 etc etc... Since recency:

2008 Spartanbg - Woff win
2009 Gville - FU win
2010 Spburg - Wof win
2011 Gville - FU win
2012 Spburg - Wof win
2013 Gvile - FU win
2014 Gville - FU win
2015 Spburg - Woff win
2016 Gville - Woff win *** exception
2017 Spburg - Woff win reg season
2017 Spburg - Woff win playoffs BOOOOOO
2018 Gville - FU win
2019 Spburg - Woff win
2021 Spburg - FU win ***exception

thats a true correlation for recent games. Home team is 12-2. Sounds good to me this weekend !

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
