Just in case you missed it the above alliance or whatever you want to call it did say they could/would play/schedule teams from other subdivisions. I heard one commish say they would not be tearing up any future contracts. Clempson AD Dan Radocovivh said they are already scheduling one rivalry, one Power 5, one group of 5 and one FCS. They like it that way and fcs games are not going away. He said those fcs games keep the money in state and both he and Dabo like it that way. They are committed to continue playing one fcs game per year.

In-state FCS much better than giving the money to Eastern Illinois like the Gamecocks are doing. I expect that either Citadel, CSU, SCSU, Wofford, or Furman would have been available when the Gamecocks got EIU. I expect they were looking for an opponent that no one in our area knew anything about, and they got one. But I’m glad we have NCA&TSU next week, win or lose.

I am much more concerned about what is going on with high school football and the effect there on FCS than I am on FBS alliances. If you have been following what is going on in the state, we have games cancelled left and right due to COVID, at some small high schools JV teams are becoming a thing of the past as the JV team has been eliminated in order to have enough players to field a varsity team, games are getting moved to days of the week other than Friday because of a shortage of referees, etc. Some schools have only played a handful of games since 2019. Hate to hijack the thread, but are there going to be enough college players for FCS to exist 5-10 years down the road? Things are getting scary.

The demographics of HS football make it pretty unlikely that we will see mass vaccination of players. I think the season will be seriously messed up unless the science of the Delta is completely wrong, or (and this is a possibility) we got tons more kids infected last year than we realized. Had we let it roll with kids last year with an original recipe Covid that didn’t hurt kids at all, we probably would have avoided the total melt down that is starting to look pretty likely.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
