Just announced by Clempson. Congrats to the Citadel leadership, coaches, fans and everyone involved in Citadel athletics. Shows they care about their football team and fans. They have at least something to get excited about instead of just sitting on the sidelines. Just goes to show the vast difference in top leadership at the Citadel vs. Furman.

While we’re “LM’ing” things...I would “PLM.”

Thinking as a Player (yes - it’s been about 40 years, but FUBeAR’s emotional maturity became completely stunted at about 20. Usually, this is not an asset, but in this case, it is), I would have waded thru Hades wearing gasoline drawers just to suit up & play a Football GAME. I cannot imagine the psychological GRIND these Players have, are, and will go thru this year. A redshirt year is torture, but often expected; missing a season, or even part of a season due to injury is torture-squared (FUBeAR survived both of these horrors...barely...and both left scars that still ‘tingle’ when they are rubbed the wrong way); but missing a season, even an abbreviated one, because your own school chose not to play would be torture to the nth power!

While these young men are much better-rounded these days, I’m highly confident that most of them still ‘identify,’ first & foremost, as a Football Player. When they wake up every morning, Football is on their minds in some shape, form, or fashion. That kind of focus is necessary to endure the grueling pain of workouts, weightlifting, and injury rehab. And, as Coach Iverson once said, they sure ain’t grindin’ to PRACTICE. They LIVE for those Saturday’s in the Fall when they go to War with their Brothers. Sure, it’s really just a silly game and the “adult” in them knows that, but that “adult” is just a tiny voice, heard way, way in the background of their psyches, and the Football Player, the Warrior in them tells that “adult” to “Get thee behind me!” every day. “You’ll have your turn, someday, but today is not yet that sad day!”

Honestly, I hope these schools are willing to & are retaining Professionals to work with these young men in groups & as individuals in how they are coping with this loss.

Several surveys have been made that show up to 75 percent of high school players are suffering from depression. I’m sure the college players are in the same ballpark. Texas Tech and U of Wisconsin are a couple of note.

Why am I not surprised that you started yet another thread to bash our Paladins? You act as though this is a Furman only decision. There are many FCS and FBS teams not playing this fall. Even powerhouse N. Dakota State is not playing. Are you saying that all of these colleges have bad leadership because they have made a very difficult decision to not play? Come on, we are in unprecedented territory here. Decisions are being made that are felt to be n the best interest of young men and women, and the communities they are in. To keep calling out Furman’s administration is childish and irresponsible. I wanted football too, but understand completely not doing so, by Furman and by hundreds of schools. It’s time to get behind the decision and support these players. Quite frankly, if you cannot do so, you should stop calling yourself a Furman fan. Move on already to your team of choice. Furman fans are tired of the whining. Go Paladins!

I feel your pain FUBeAR. Add to that we were prob going to be the best team in the SoCon this year. The players and coaches have to be in agony.

If the same thing happens to basketball it's going be even worse.

This is probably covered in another thread, but I'm playing catch up after a vacation. NDSU is now hosting Central Arkansas to get their future top-5 pick QB some national exposure. Speaking of CA, they are going to have multiple games on national TV this year. It's really disappointing to see these type of games scheduled when your team is sitting at home. I would have understood if all of college football had been shutdown due to the pandemic, but I don't understand how it's safe for some schools to play and not for others. Put the team in a bubble for two weeks and then go get a payday from a big school ... or a national TV game against an FCS/G5 team. It's a win win win for players, fans and the university's budget. Those teams that are playing as little as one game this fall can practice 20 hours as opposed to 12 for teams that aren't playing any games. Huge advantage for the spring season.

Yeppers, feel like FU missed a golden opportunity to get on national TV during the regular season. BTW Central Arkansas has a 9 game schedule. Obviously they think a spring season won’t happen and even if it does playing a fall schedule makes sense.

I think - and I could be wrong - that the military academies are a little different.

For one, I do not believe the military academies redshirt many players. So, by not playing they'll loose eligibility.

For two, a school like Army isn't in a conference. So, they may not have a lot of comfort in their ability to carve out a spring schedule. It wouldn't surprise me to see the spring season be conference only, which is complex for Independents.

Agree if there is a spring season it will be conference only and no more than 8 games. BTW the NCAA was supposed to announce something for the FCS playoffs in the spring by Aug. 21st. Of course that did not happen.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
