Reading some other articles, it appears Julian Ashby was the first long snapper taken in the NFL draft since 2001.
Apparently, it was going to be a bidding war for his services as a UDFA, so the Patriots decided to draft him instead. From what I read, that's a lot of capital to put on a non-premium position, so there's probably a really good chance he's going to play.
Yet it is an extremely vital position. It is a skill like anything else.
