So the rumor is these were all just zoom calls, not actual full on interviews...
I've conducted plenty of "full on" interviews on Zoom/Webex. What does the remote nature of it have to do with anything?

Are you hiring to pay nearly 1 million salary? lol

It tells us it's more of 'putting out a feeler' than anything concrete, like who knows what anyone's interest level is anybody can take 2 seconds just to hop on a zoom, nobody will be hired this way in D1 Basketball... If we eventually hear he makes a trip to Charleston for an in person interview that becomes a different story...

FWIW…

…While leading Executive Searches for a Fortune 100 global company, FUBeAR managed entire interviewing and hiring processes for many Sr. Exec’s w/very high 6 and low 7 figure compensation packages, that were entirely conducted via Teams/Zoom/Webex. These included many situations where relocation was required. This started to be an occasional practice, with increasing frequency, about a year or so before Covid. It became SOP during and continued the pandemic had waned.

D1 Hoops may not have adopted this practice yet, but FUBeAR knows a D1 Football school recently hired their Head Football Coach from a short list of about 5 interviewed candidates with the entire process conducted to conclusion via Zoom.

Based on this tweet, all of that talk about Richey interviewing was nonsense.

That's clearly false - schools that have a "primary" target still interview other candidates. There's been no contradiction of reports other coaches interviewed.

True. But there has been no confirmation of any other coach being interviewed. It was all speculation, and the media trying to be first with some scoop.

I am aware of plenty of companies that would never do 'only' this practice to pay high level salary without meeting in person, so seems two ways of thinking...
Also CofC hired someone that person never even mentioned so shows just how well that twitter(X) account was informed ;)

None of the named coaches denied interviewing despite the fact it will be used against them in recruiting.
At the end of the day none of this is going to matter, there were rumors of JMU a few years ago and even bogus rumors of UNC-Charlotte last year, the College of Charleston stuff this year bogus or not will make no difference...
Just as in years past we should all be celebrating still having Richey, that's the bottom line :D

There is still no official announcement that Mack will be the next Cougars coach. Why am I still anxious about the Charleston job?

I think you are still anxious because of fear. You fear that our basketball will become terrible again after the Medved-Richey years. You want to know who our next coach will be, when (not if) that time comes, so that you can try to have some reassurance about the future. Furman having good basketball is important to you. It is one of the things in your life that you have the need to feel good about.
… For now, please consider that the reason no announcement has been made includes (1) Easter weekend, people are doing other things. (2) Elite Eight games taking all the attention, and (3) the CofC Board of Trustees has not yet had time for an official meeting to approve the contract with Coach Mack.
