For years, the Greenville News has virtually ignored Furman athletics. What efforts are we trying to foster a better relationship with the Greenville News?

Who cares, virtually nobody reads that junk paper..........

This topic has come up for at least the past 20 years here and has never gotten anywhere, they don't give a rats rear so why should we! It's really not worth mentioning that sorry paper around here any more let alone using 2 new topics to talk about it

It is a waste of time to worry about the Greenville News. Very few folks under the age of 50 look at any newspaper. Social media is the way to communicate to the masses.

Agree in part but their social media feed also ignores us. I used to have the “who cares” attitude about local media coverage but I feel the need to at least speak up against such horrible “journalism” that cares more about clicks and money than actually reporting local news.

What additional graduate degrees are in the works, if they are? An MBA or something along those lines might appeal to a broader group of students.

I agree more with Bootie on this than with Roundball on this.
If it is "a waste of time" to protest because very few folks under age of 50 look at any any newspaper (which is true to an extent), then WHY do The Greenville News, The State Newspaper, and Charleston Post & Courier ALL devote SO MUCH of their space to South Carolina Gamecocks (practically every Gamecock sport is soaked in coverage) and to Clemson Tigers - in their digital, online, and "breaking sports news flash" coverage as well as in their print editions.
Of course, I do realize that the answer is "eyeballs and dollars over fairness" over "good journalism".
I suppose if Furman were to win the FCS championship "regularly" or be ranked consistently in the men's basketball top ten nationally, then Furman might perhaps get increased to about 10% of the amount of coverage that Greenville News, The State, and P&C give to South Carolina and Clemson, instead of the about 0.1% of the amount of coverage that they give to South Carolina and Clemson.

The Gannett News has two employed sportswriters. At one time not too long ago they had 8-9, I believe. They last covered Furman with stringers before ending that arrangement three years ago, I’m told. Gannett is good at cutting costs, so much so they have left themselves with virtually nothing or nobody to deliver value to would-be customers. What they’ve become is an industry-wide development. Newspapers everywhere have cratered, and many have ceased to exist. It’s 2023 reality that block ice dealers experienced when the electric fridge came along.

Sad but it goes with the times. I’ve been around long enough that at one time I had a subscription to both the Greenville News and the Greenville Piedmont. Im sure some of you guys remember those days.

One of the few newspapers still thriving is the Charleston Post and Courier. Somehow, they have figured it out and are expanding throughout the state. It’s a must read if you enjoy reading a newspaper.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
