Former Davidson head coach Driesell died today at the age of 92. He lead Davidson to the highest level they ever reached. In 9 seasons they had 8 winning records, made the NCAA tourney 3 times and won the regular season title 5 times. They reached the Elite Eight twice and the Sweet Sixteen three times. In his last 6 seasons at DU they only lost a total of 7 regular season SoCon games.

After Davidson he coached for 17 years at Maryland, He later coached 9 years at James Madison and 6 years at Georgia State. He took every school he coached to at least 1 NCAA tournament. Maryland went to 8 NCAAs. He had a career record of 786-394. He is the only coach in D1 history to win 100 games at four different schools. He was voted to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.

I always assumed that Driesell's success at Davidson played into Joe Williams coming to Furman.

Lefty Driesell was truly one of the great BB coaches of all time. I would place him in the top 10 of college coaches. That would be an interesting list to compile.

Lefty was a great coach and fun to watch.
Heard several interviews with him that were very entertaining.

One of my favorite FU basketball memories was watching FU beat his 2nd ranked Davidson team at GMA on the 10th anniversary of Selvy’s 100 point game 70-55. Frank Selvy’s brother David led the way.
